i need some oppinions:
I really liked the look of the WoW trailer that came with the frozen throne, and was looking forward to Wow until i realised there would be a subscription fee. a short while later i saw guild wars, and was put off it since i thought there would be a subscription fee, and learned there wouldn't be.

I played the guild wars beta and thought "wow this is really cool" but then at a lan party yesterday/day before (28 hours without sleep i lost track of time over the weekend) i saw a mate playing world of warcraft and thought "wow beats guild wars" but i didnt have enough time to watch him play properly before it was announced someone was hosting a CSS game.

I'd just like to know peoples oppinions from those who have played world of warcraft, is it worth the subscription fee (speaking of which, how much is the initial cost)?

think of things from a money point of view.

wow has a subscription system. has tons of subscribers, has active bug fixes and huge support. over time, that suppost will still be there.

guildwars on the other hand is you just pay for the game and thats it. where does the server costs come from? after 1-2years where will the money for servers come from?

you think how much the subscription is. it's much cheaper than a monthly cinema pass(9.99 here) and lasts longer than most things you pay for.

The way I see it, if there's a subscription charge, it should be to a company that's sole purpose is to update the game and maintain the servers. With Blizzard, I think that once WOW is up and running, they'll go onto their next project - but frankly, if I'm paying for the same game every 4 months, I'd want damn stable servers, and a lot of updates.

What if Blizzard decide that in 1 years time it's time for WOW2, is that another 9.99 per month - really they should develop WOW as a side project at least, so it's constantly being improved and we don't feel as if our 9.99 is better off in the bank. The other thing that concearns me is the a-hole quotent, if your paying for a server subscription, then how could they ban you if you decide that going around annoying people is your game?.

Not that I'll be getting either, or any MMORPG, I'd probably spend far too much time playing them and DBPro would become yet another MMORPG widow .

I've already got my money on the horse name Guild Wars. It's just too damn fun to play. Take days off of work just to make sure I get every minute out of the BWEs.

In a way, I like and dislike the no-subscription bit. It's good that I don't have to continuously pay for a game I already own. It's bad that any 10 year old schmuck can get the game with his birthday money and annoy the crap out of everyone else for the rest of the game's existance.

I have World of Warcraft, and I am loving it. There are bugs, and they havent properly implemented some features yet. The most annoying thing would be the gm support. so far I have found 3 bugs, 1 big bug and 2 smaller ones. When you find a bug you submit a ticket, and wait until the gms read your report. I have waited over an hour before I gave up on it. I have still yet to report any bugs. There are some issues with lag and the likes, the servers have already been updated, however it's not enough. Blizzard did not expect to sell as many copies as they did. The online community (for the server I play on) is great overall. There are however some people that got the game for christmass that are still on the free month ( or at least they were) that do some stupid things.
The maximum level for World of Warcraft is lvl 60. I started playing the game a week before christmass, and have a lvl 41 character and a lvl 20 one. There are still many things to do at level 60 so it dosen't just end there.

There is already content that is going to be released soon called Battlegrounds for more information refer to

I havent played guild wars, but just to make myself feel better. and to justify for paying $15 a month for WoW I am going to throw out possible reasons as to why Guild Wars might be a bad game.
With no subscription fee they have to get the money somehow in order to pay for the costs. They will probably release many expansion packs. Instead of always paying a fee for new content and the like you will probably have to buy the new content/upgrades, and hopefully not bug fixes.

The Initial fee for WoW is $50 (1 month free) There is a $15 monthly fee if you buy the 60 day gamecards for $30 (like me, although, I have seen gamecards for $25 making the monthly fee $12.50 a month)

Well, I hope you have a bit more understanding of WoW now. If you would like, I can post about the good things in WoW (At the time of writting I should have been asleep two hours ago.)

Which ever game you do chose ( if you do chose one) will consume your life, and you will become addicted.

Yes, GW will have regular expansions ArenaNet it dubbing 'Chapters'. Nice thing is though, you won't need to purchase any chapters you don't want, and you can still play in just the ones you have.

Well my problem with most pay per month MMORPG's is expansions. I shouldn't have to buy a Expansion even if i don't need it if i pay 15$ a month. Thats what threw me away from FFXI in such a short time, and various other MMO's.

I'm just hoping guild wars is reasonable with the expansions, for I enjoy Guild Wars much more then WoW... dunno why, i just do.

They update wows quests and things every month so you are getting an updated game all the time you cant really complain about that espcially if you havnt played it. I have no idea how guild wars will survive but it is likely they will have a basic membership and a advanced paid for option to stay operating.

If you pay a monthly subscription, and they then release an expansion, they should either have it for download to paying customers, or paying customers just pay shipping. I am thinking of starting WoW because I was very impressed by it, but I think £9 is quite a high price, although worth it - if the game is up to scratch(or is pulled up to scratch)

One of the main points ArenaNet has always made is that 'There will never be a subscription fee to play Guild Wars'. That was a design goal 2 years ago, and it's still the design goal today. There are no 'basic' and 'advanced' memberships, or any loopy thing like that. It's my guestimate, based on previous info gathered, that a new chapter will be released every 2-3 months. This is probably their revenue plan, which I have no problem with.
