i am trying to make a basic midi playing thing just so i know something about what i am making but what is the format and yes i have searched w3c.org

MIDI filescontain instructions to access a sound library (typically General Midi) and playback multiple instruments with different combinations of pitches, volume, and length. You use sequencing or notation software to arrange a piece of music in a more visually appealing format and then when it is saved as a midi it appears as instructions like ~C160,72 (at least that's how you write it in Sibelius).

There are four MIDI formats.

MIDI Format 0
MIDI Format 1
RIFF MIDI Format 0
RIFF MIDI Format 1

All files extensions are .mid

umm anyone know where to get GAME mids in any of the formats

i already friggin did google and that is why i am posting here; they rather cost money or i couldnt find what i need
all i found were midi songs not osund effects or wait i never tried searching for sound effects -searching now... ok i found some now that are freeware and not stupid songs

they haven't used midi for sound effects since the nes days

Yeah, but they use Music tracks for N64, DS, and GBA, although I think it's a custom sound set.

Consoles use/used trackers, not MIDI

Die general midi die! Die wavetable sound cards, die!!! Long live sample based music, or people with big-off studios with cubase sound fonts and proper midi equipment!
