This is just sickening. The final nail was driven into the NHL season's coffin this morning as the NHL commissioner cancelled the entire season.

This year the league has lost 224 million because a bunch of whiny players whose average salaries are almost $2million a year want more. Commissioner Bettman shares the blame too--- he is an atrocious man who is not even a hockey guy. There's a reason why Gary Bettman was in Forbe's list of worst businessmen.

Pretty bad. There would be riots in this country if they cancelled the main football leagues.

Cheers

It's the global village. Er, nation. Whatever

It is a perilous occupation for TGC to post anything by way of a promise, as the words get etched in indestructable marble for all time.

simply sickening. I look forward, all damn summer, to the start of both the football and hockey season. Baseball and Basketball I could give a rats ass about. This really really sucks my arse. And from what I heard, the sides negotiated to within 7 million dollars of each other, and still couldnt pull it off. Bunch of twits. Next player or league rep that whines about hockey not being taken seriously, etc etc etc, they can look back on this attrocity and blame themselves.

wow that sucks. i never follow the game but it's sad when a big league gets cancelled.

they should kick all the players off who want more money and bring in some fresh blood, bring the books to a managable level.

Yes, they should get some second-grade replacement players that don't play with their skill, but play with their heart. And we must remember that only the most estranged and oddball no-name players should be selected. That is, all but the talented retired captain, who blew away fame and glory away when he choked on the final winning play... oh, and the captain should also be left-handed.

Ahem....

Blame the Irish for that one.

Anyway, it has some good with it. It will invigorate the Swedish hockey league when all the NHL pro's return home to their original teams to play.

The season was supposed to start last October, but they kept going back and forth with meetings to try and work out a deal. Like CR said, it finally came down to around 6-7million but both sides (NHL and NHL Players Association) were too stubborn to step down. The NHL commissioner finally cancelled the entire season because there was only a few months left anyway. Now the NHL might not even return next season either So upsetting...

I didn't realise NHL was so flexible - with football these things seem to be worked out years in advance. Cancelling a season must have cost loads in lost revenue

Same thing"

@Neofish

Saying that a Canadian and a US citizen are the same thing is completely wrong. Our justice system is completely different, our laws are completely different. The only thing canada and the us share is the worlds largest undefended border and a pretty good relationship.

Calling a canadian citizen a US citizen is like saying the UK and FRANCE are the same thing.
