Newcomers DBPro Corner / Problem in my DB setup?

I think there must be because in several programs objects fail to be textured when other users have no complaints. For example, in Ric's extremely cool pong game from the DBPro Coding Challenges the bats and ball are supposed to be coloured green, purple and blue, but they come out white, as shown in the image attached. Similarly in the LTypeDemo that comes with DBPro the plane is white. Various other snippets from the forums fail to work as well. Any idea why?

No-one has any clue? I could really do with some help here because it's making it very difficult. The latest example of where it cacks up is in the donkey kong game in the DBPro Coding Challenge thread. Absolutely everything apart from the background is white despite all the color object commands.
