Hey guys,

I am releasing the first, bare bones, crude,
buggy version of FPI Editor. Despite being all those
things, I think it's easy to use and much much nicer
than using ye olde notepad. You may email bugs to:

KeithCAInc@GMail.com

I plan on enabling the Command Builder functionality in
the next release which will help with building complex
lines of script. Syntax highlighting will come, but not
for a few versions.

From the README:

FPI Editor is used for editing FPI scripts for
The Game Creators' First Person Shooter Creator.

This program is currently in Alpha stages and may not
be reliable. Please report bugs to KeithCAInc@gmail.com

This program is currently only available for personal, non-commercial use.

Note that you need the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Runtime installed
in order to use this application. If you do not have it installed,
you can download it from the following location:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en

MAKE SURE THE .NET RUNTIME IS INSTALLED BEFORE EMAILING BUGS!

fdecker is hosting the application over at his site,
http://www.fpscreators.com/

Under the "Utilities" section.

Cheers and have fun!

This is really a great tool, and I haven't found any bugs yet.

I do have some (very, very) minor suggestions for the next version, all of which are really simple in VS.NET:

1) A menu (I know you already have all the buttons necessary, but menus are always handy for keyboard shortcuts)

2) The default File Open should point to the scriptbank directory, and should be "Files of type" .fpi.

3) The default save directory should be scriptbank\user

4) An mru

5) An MDI interface -- tabbed at the bottom -- would be nice, but not really critical

Great product!! Thanks!

Basically dark.

@Logan - thanks for the comments and input! I will have a standard menu in the next version.

Items 2-4 are also certain for the next version. I would like to have item 5 soon, but realistically it will probably be a couple of versions away.

I am also focusing on the Command Builder as well as a simple script validator. The problem with the latter is that in going through the FPI scripts I have found more than a couple undocumented actions and conditions. A validation will fail since they are not documented. I may just opt to give a warning to the user upon failing the validation as opposed to a critical warning\error approach.

Thanks again for the input!

Wow I had not noticed that someone else was building a script editor. It looks really nice, better than what I was building. The validation idea is an absolute must, I've already started building a simple validator class in C#, maybe you can make use of that when I finish it?

Anyways this is what I have on mine:
the editor

this one shows the intellisense popup

this last one shows the tooltip popup

I noticed that you are using .NET as well, maybe we can help each other?

@rlopez - looks very nice! When I get to doing validation lets touch base perhaps and see if we can collaborate.

Keep up the good work!

I have found a bug that appears to be affecting the sript, when you save a file then open it with notepad, you will notice the script has been squished together and the line spaces have gone, this seems to stop the script from running, I took the same script and saved it with FPI Maker and it ran ok, and looked the same in Notepad.
Hope this helps.
