Yes, Real Alternative is awesome. For anyone who's sick of the crap that comes with RealOne and RealPlayer, you should definitely get RealAlternative, it's a very basic player with none of the rubbish.

I support opensource software, but Dev-C++ and lots of GNU stuff are exceptions. Dev-C++ is the worst C++ IDE I've ever used. And I don't like GCC much either. There's a lot of stuff that's opensource I'd choose not to use. Espetially if it's from GNU. Their GPL liscence is horrid. The way Richard Stallman envisions the computer world is self-destructive. He goes on and on about protecting "freedom", by giving this freedom to the end-user, and totally restricting the programmer's freedom.

My two favourite open source projects are Firefox and Irrlicht.
My favourite freeware program is Winamp.

I can't stand OpenOffice, the Gimp just feels wierd, Sodipodi is still unstable, etc.

GCC - The best set of compilers EVER.
GIMP - Essentially a free clone of Photoshop but with extentions.
Gaim - Free AIM/MSN/Yahoo!/IRC/etc. client.
Mozilla - One of the best browsers of all time.
OpenOffice - Free clone of MS Office but works on more OSes.

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot OpenWatcom!

TKFISH, what do you use, if not Dev?

I have tried many C++ IDEs, Relo, Codeblocks, DJGPP, be I always go back to Dev-C++, despite it's shortcomings. Speaking of which, new 4.9.9.2 is out.

LCC is also inefficient and unreliable.

Yep, LCC is for C only. If I need C++ I use VC6.

Quote: " LCC is also inefficient and unreliable."

But the IDE is miles better. Besides, I've never had problems with it.

Thanks Goth.

I'm not being lazy, it's just that there is a lot of stuff here and it's easy for peeps to post a link as they post their recommendations.

My all time favourite is KeyNote. You can store all your project notes, ideas, thoughts, contacts etc in one application. Multiple tabs, unlimited tree structure.

I keep my keynote file on my USB pen disk, it goes everywhere with me.

I love it. I use it mainly for Torque, because I have VC 6 for a C++ ide. I found it and tried it, then a week later my community college teacher mentioned he used it for java.
