Hey all, just wondering if it possible to have a program that will run in the background.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you are asking, I have been working on something in DBP and decided to come to these forums to ask a question so I minimize DBP open IE and do what I have to do then go back to DBP and leave IE open but minimized.

I also run Lightwave and photoshop and IE at the same time. I will have Lightwave rendering in the background and I will be working in Photoshop or surfing the web. This is not good, you should dedicate the whole system to rendering.

Unless you have an ancient system you can multitask but be sure to save often because you can have a system freeze up and loose a lot because you have to reboot.I have had this happen to me.

I try not to have to many things open at once. Lightwave and photoshop both take up a lot of system resources and I have had no problems. I have a dell P4 1.7 mhz with an ATI Radeon 9600 SE with 128MB DDR onboard

Yes you can, but I don't think you can interface with it very easily unless you give it the focus (make it the foreground window). i.e. Scancode(), Inkey$(), and LeftKey() won't capture key strokes unless the db exe is running up front. The only thing I've been able to get to work in the background is Get Clipboard$().

You should be able to send UDP and TCP/IP messages to the process. If you're also coding it in DBP the various multiplayer functions might help you but I wonder about the performance hit of two DirectX apps running at the same time. A background process shouldn't have a need to do any actual display of graphics.

Like Dragonslayer, I'm not completely sure what it is you hope to have going on in the background... ?

I know I wanted some background functions to play around with for different purposes. I was wondering if I could make, for example, a program that would "help" me type my code by finishing key words for me. It would also be a great way to work around some limitations in DB. Could also do some really neat "windows" type stuff.
