Just to tell you this, an italian software house offer me a contract for my games, with royalties, boxed games with covers and so on, we'll start from a new version of Sunday Drivers, for italian market.
Next, a new and redesigned Sunday panzers with 2 players option, a new rally game (sunday drivers 2) and a fps.
So, no more ermesdesign games on this forum and on my site, and of course, no more "developed with darkbasic pro etc." in other way, this is the end of my freeware games, and my next games will be avaiable only in Italy and you must pay for them. The power of the money ...

I like your games too, even though you have a selfish attitude, from what I've seen you do deserve a job making games. Good luck...

Is anyone else a little skeptical? I can't help but think he's just making up this whole thing to 'get back at' the community for that whole debacle that ensued a couple weeks ago. Well, that's just my opinion of course, I could be completely wrong.

Well I'm not going to start anything again here because as it stands, this is a perfectly legit thread and we wouldn't want to ruin it by restarting the debate. However, if you really must know, search for Ermes' last thread in this forum (keyword: 'emarginated').

haha, well if it's true I cheer for ya

Hell if I'd be making freeware games when I could be making money off my programs

I believe the commercial route is just up your alley^_^ Doesn't matter how good of a person you are.. nobody cares when you're talking money and your users don't care as long as it's a fun game.

-just don't stab yourself in the back with your attitude, when it comes to the business world, if you're working for someone, they tell you how much recognition you get-

yes it's is true, i can be a selfish yea but i nevet told you a lie.
Exeat, i think we don't like each other so much, so i will be very pleased if you stop to use your smart deduction on my posts.
This is the end of freeware, because my royalties are in proportion of the games distribution , i.e. for Sunday Drivers i have a thin % of the gain because it was released as freeware one year and a half ago, however i can't make games fulltime for now, the gain is really little. Believe me it is all true. And i haven't to write all in english (oh!), but in italian, for the italian market.
Ah, Drew Cameron, sorry for making your name in the post of two weak ago.
I wish the same luck for all of you, for now i'm on the lowest step of the market (4,99 euro for a boxed game) with 0.20 euro of royalties for each copy. a really thin %.
Bye people!

Congratulations Ermes, it's always nice to see freeware developers going into published software and making some money for a change. Your at that happy budget level though, which is actually a good place to be - pocket money priced games means you'll hit the right market, kids. Parents love those 3-for-£10 style deals as well, so you could very well make more money at this price level than a higher one.

Getting DBPro games published is not inconceivible, I mean I've had a couple of offers over the years, but for my own situation it would be financially stupid of me to quit my job for an unceartain publishing deal. I imagine that it's the case all over this forum, people who'd love to quit their jobs or school so they can get stuck into a big game project, but unfortunately you can't pay your rent with kudos.

BatVink this is right, i'm not the first to go to publish my games developed with dbpro, and i hope i'll not be the last!
Uberwiggett i'll take your greets to morticia
and thanks Van-B, this is the same situation for me, i've a good job, i can't leave it for an uncertain game developer work.
Exeat i think you're joking me .
I hope all this it will not be a hole in the water.

Exeat, leave him alone... it's not our place to judge here.

That doesn't matter, Exeat. There's someone judging me, in that case, you, and someone judging you, Exeat.
In that case, i'm allowed to judge you as your word say, and i think if i write what i think this topic will be locked.
So, if we can "fight" with the same weapon....

Jeku thank you for your best wishes, and the same to you.

i don't know how the things really goes, maybe in a couple of months it will be all fine or not. Anyway why don't try???

For all of you thinking to publish your games i've some advice:

1: make something playable and fun, make your game simple and nice.
2: try to be published as demo game in the demo disk of some PC magazine of your country.
3: don't start asking money for the first 3-4 games.
4: don't make the game you want to play but the game the customers want to play.
5: try to be popular on internet with your games
6: don't tell anyone you've make it with a basic, just lie and say C++
7: don't loose intrest on it, try to be popular for a couple of years
with your games and try to contact the budget line publishers.
8: Luck. a Big look to be finded by a talent scout (i was finded from a talent scout after publishing Sunday Panzers on a national italian magazine of pc games.)

That was my winning way.

oh, i'm very pleased to see all your widhes, thank you my dear friend!
GothOtaku , no company bought the rights of my games, i've a contact for a contract with (i can't tell the name) to publish my games.
In the next 3 weeks i've to remake the graphics of sunday drivers. If all go ok, they will publish the game. in the next months i've to make something better and more intresting to sell, i've in the pipeline a great rally game, really intresting and funny (it was Sunday drivers 2...) we'll see.
In the future if my games will be good enought, maybe they purchase the rights of my games, but this is a different situation.

Good work, Ermes!

It's nice to see you have hit the commercial market with those games.

It's like you said, you made games that the players wanted to play, and that is what won it for you. A nice simple, but very fun game for all ages.

Good luck with the income you earn!

Jess.

GothOtaku, apparently it's part of the contract conditions. Many companies want things kept quiet under such circumstances. Why? Only the company knows THAT answer, but it generally makes sense to them, even if to no one else.
