Hi there, I know this is off topic a little, hence me posting in this forum, anyway, I'm working on a site for a friend's company http://www.all-equestrian.co.uk and was wondering if anyone's got any tips for optimizing it for search engine indexing.

It uses php coding to browse the categories and sub categories of products, do search engines who's page content runs off a single page (in this case products.php?cat=1 products.php?cat=2 and so on) or would it be an advatange to use the mod_rewrite functions so that it uses products.php/cat/2 products.php/cat/1 etc?

Also, with keywords are you only allowed 1 keyword tag or could I make the site dynamically create the keywords for each category that people are looking at (e.g. have keywords relating to the products in that category etc).

Any comments are a great help, as I'm new to the concept of optimizing sites for search engines to index them.

Cheers

Well, so far I've made it so the products page works as follows:

products.php/1/56 e.g. products.php/category/subcategory which should help a little (apparently I'm told that google has no problem indexing dynamic sites which use variables passed through the URL, but it's better to be safe I guess).

I'm thinking of making it generate the keywords dynamically as previously mentioned, presumably this would be a good idea.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers

I don't think Google looks at the keywords tags in HTML. I believe (and you can correct me if I'm wrong) that they base their results on popularity--- linkbacks etc.

Yeah, I think that's the way they do it nowadays.
