Yesterday I started a new platformer called "BeachBall" In the game you are a beachball that has to try and find the key(s) in levels and exit before the time limit...

The HUD isnt implemented yet but heres an early screenshot and I might release an early demo soon.

Looks pretty cool ! definately keep that style, it works well, what would be nice though is to have moving obstacles etc to impede your way through...moving platforms would be cool.
Ill be keeping an eye on this, could be damn good fun !

I'd say read the text file and if it equals a 1 or something of the sort create the desired object.

Yeah its easy to say that but its a lot harder to do...*i think*.

Because I dont think you can use the READ function w/ text files ?

You can...its not too hard, the other way is to design arrays and then save them.

It sounds like a good premise DBAlex. Just by adding some very simple features, like Material changes.

The regular ball would sink in water, but would be able to bounce on to platform and against walls. A heavy ball could cross fire, but not be able to jump, and a light ball could float on water but get caught by up-drafts that shot it up in the air. Just an idea anyway.

DBAlex: Looking good, If you want to know how to do what you where asking (reading text file) i can help you by producing you a cut down form of my scripting engine (this isnt a plug but as its native db and you where thinking about adding this functionality it seemed appropiate to mention it) If you do just let me know

Rich

Jiffy: Thanks! The demo will be out soon (gotta try and work out this level loading thing)

Required: Good ideas dude! Thanks for those...I like the idea of the ball changing, maybe you would have to use a different ball for different levels...hmm...

Powersoft: Thanks! That would be cool! would it be easy to put into my engine? (it reads stuff like READ 0,0,1,0,0,0,0,1 etc)

Thanks Everyone.

Hi!
Here is a sample code similar to the one I used in my game Marble Run to load levels. I hope it can be useful to you. As you can see in a customized file you can put various objects in various positions and specify a background/landscape image and a tile for ground.
Your game seems interesting, when there will be a demo available?

Hmm. I think im going to remake this...instead it will be 3D like Super Monkey Ball.

Gotta start over again but it will be worth it

Ill post screens when i get a basic level and stuff done.

and i may release the source for this version...

Image of newest version:

The game now plays like Super Monkey Ball...the ball accelerates...and slows down. Levels can now be .x ones because i converted Kensupens .x collision code to be able to be used with 3D objects (and models).

PS. This took ages...

How realistically does the ball move? Does it use sphere or box collision and is it bouncy? ie. does it bounce off the very corners of the level boxes?

Simple... yet fun!

Well it uses Kensuppens (spelling?) collision. Which is box collision i think.

The ball doesnt bounce of walls...I need help on how to make it so that when the ball "falls off" the level (isnt touching any part of it) the ball "falls"...I tried this

yeah simple...It didnt work though...anyone got any ideas?

Just tested the demo. Good work until now. When I jump and keep the key pressed the ball stands still!?! Is this right? Do you think to make a platform on a 3d basis (ie: with platforms in the sky where you bounce on like in your first posted image, I think this should be the way) or on a 2d basis like in the demo?
