I have been using freewebs for my website for a long time but i cant let anyone download any of my games or anything because of the limited space freewebs let u have and the slow downloading speeds.

So, i would like to know what other free hosting sites i can use. I would like to know how to add a forum to my website and i would like to know what u would have to do to set up an old computer as a webserver and host your own website and if thats a stupid idea.

edit: i downloaded a program called "analogx simplewebsserver:www" and i hosted a website for about 10 minutes so now i knwo that i can use my computer as a webserver i would liek to know the dangers or costs of doing this

Well from what I've heard if many people visit, it eats up a lot of bandwith that your ISP allows you. And since it's your home computer and not a fatpipe connection, there's bound to be a lot of lag. Depending on your skills with the server software, it can be less reliable. Plus your computer isn't as secure as a professional hosting company.
But on the other hand, it's your server so you are not limited to what a company offers.

i found out that the site that i hosted using analogx simplewebsserver:www could only be accesed throught the network and i couldnt connect to it using a computer with dialup access outside of the network.

My dad also said that our isp wouldnt allow it and it would be against the rules of our isp. I didnt look it up and i dont think he knows for certain, i think he is just guessing that but it would probally slow down the internet speeds of everyone else using the computers on our home network anyway and yes it wouldnt be secure.

For the forums thing, i found out i can use, http://invisionfree.com/

And for the free host i think i saw some posts about that before so i will just search the forum.

Now all i have to do is make my new website.

I have made a new website. Right now my website is http://www.iamverystupidd.tk I am using freewebs as a webhost right now.

After I get some money from my birthday, march 26 , i want to get a .com domain name and get a paid webhost so there is no ads on my website and i can host my game downloads. Freewebs.com takes forever to download files. I was going to make it stupidsoftware.com but that is already taken. So i need a new name for my site. I would also like recommendations on improving my site and who i should use as a webhost. I was planning on using godaddy.com for my webhost and to register my domain name.

I'm sorry for double posting but it has been almost 6 days since i last posted here so i think its alright.

When i get my own place im going to put in a fast internet connection and host my own website off a dedicated computer so hopefully within the next year or so 1mb upload will be cheap =)

Lycos / Tripod, are generally free. Despite some annoying advert banner it is pretty good for space and transfers.
