I am completely new to the whole game programming thing, but not to the programming programs. I know for some languages you need to have an environment to test the code in, so I was wondering if there is anything (such as a language environment) that I need to test my Darkbasic code in.

Are you refering to the DB launcher? The launcher is where you compile all your code and execute it. The launcher is what other languages would call the shell or GUI. Also, this where you program other programs. So, to answer your question; yes there is a language environment. Hope this was helpful.

Like when you program in Java you need to have the JDK in order for Eclipse to work (eclipse being the software you use to program in).

You don't need an environment (other than Windows)

The reason Eclipse needs the JDK is that it is written in Java itself, thus needs the JVM runtime environment and the JDK for debugging.

Right now the debugger doesn't work very well, so all debugging is done by most people by printing values on-screen or to a text file.

Everything you need to run it comes in the box.

Smile, it confuses people.
