Hi!
I've just started a 3d racing game (DB Classic) with cars equipped with mega-tyres.
What do you think about models and textures?
Any suggest for the environment (sci-fi, nowadays, rally-like, ? ) And about title? I think Big Wheels is appropriate
Alex

here is an image from this early version (only ground and cars)

I like your models, but would need to see more before i could say anything else.

Nice Wheels!!! I could see this being a good game, if you took advantage of the wheels and introduced some whacky features.

Yes, the idea is to have the cars bump and jump and to add tricks and weapons like in Wacky Races cartoon (Dastardly & Muttley style).
You'll have the choice to run honestly or to act infamously damaging other runners.

Wacky races was one of my favorite games of all time when I was really young. I love cartoony and crazy arcade racing games(Rock & Roll Racing anyone?), so this project could be very cool.

Definitly like the style and where this is going, keep up the good work!

This days I've created a test environment with hills and jumps. I'm testing my own pysichs model. I know that there is the great Newton Wrapper avalaible but I wanna try one by myself (a simpler one, of course).

This project sounds great, especialy the wacky races aspect...its been too long since i watched that.
Looking foreward to see more, not too sure of a good physics engine, for simple stuff i normaly write it myself.

Physics wise you may be able to just get away with using spherical collision for each wheel and one for the body. Due to the model's shape and proportions it would be fast, and not noticeable.

Simple... yet fun!

A very similar game to the one I'm making. Good luck.

The idea is to add wacky weapons and 007-like weapons (gas, oil, etc.).
I've just created an oval track with ascents and descents. So far my physic model is not so bad.

Does anyone know a way to make smooth graphic curves(turns) using only matrix?

@robo cat: thanks, I'll try this method

@andrew neale: good luck to you, too I've just seen about that project on your R.O.T. thread

When you said "Big Wheels" I was thinking traditional monster trucks, those wheels look like beach balls! I could imagine the suspension being excessively soft and bouncy, could make for interesting gameplay.

Looks great, the cars to remind me of an old game called Rollcage where the cars could drive either way up, very disorientating that was.

One question of (slight) concern, the screenshots you've posted seem to have dithering in the colours, are you running in a 16bit colour mode?

I don't suffer from insanity:

I enjoy every minute of it!

No, I'm going on 32bit, probably it's 'cause i'm using low quality(40x40) test textures and I've converted the images in .jpg format. And yes, I've played Rollcage, too, the concept will be similar without the car reverse and with a different approach.

Looking good Alex, keep up the good work.

@Underworld 1020

OffTopic: I never even had a Nintendo, but I'd go to my neighbors house every other day just to play.
