Newcomers DBPro Corner / Camera distortion?

I have an object that was created to the size of 20m in my 3d program. Loading it into DBpro I set the camera to 0,0,-100 to get the object to a smaller size.

When I move my object around on the screen I am getting a lot of distortion around the edges of the screen like form a wide angel lens. Can this be corrected?

Shouldn't be getting too bad of distortion (you will always have some), but you can play around with the Set Camera FOV command to get it too your liking.

I am only gettng a little but it bothers me. LOL

I have my 3d nmodels just where I want them. If I play around too much with the FOV I will have to change the placement of the camera which may bring up other issues.

I may give it a crack though...

Wow - never noticed that before! Just tried it now, though, and I see what you mean. That must cause a problem every now and again for people who mix 2-d and 3-d.

Yes my Game is 3d pieces for a turn based strategy game. So the distortion is a little annoying.
I have to deal with this sometime, but too busy with the game code now to play with it.

Are you talking about the lines around the outside edges of objects being distorted? If so try going into your videocard settings and turn antialiasing on. It will slow your game down but it will look better.

A sphere in the corner of the screen will look oddly egg shaped. I think that's because the 3D math can't really take into account all the factors involved in drawing a 3D scene on a 2D canvas, especially when it comes to the more extreme perspective angles. I find it annoying too - I don't want my perfect spheres looking like eggs. I think playing around with the camera settings is the solution, but I've not worried about it that much myself to try and find a "perfect" settings. I expect different vid-cards and monitors will also produce different results as well.

I believe that the Video card is in the right on this one. It is using a fairly simple process that gives acurate results. The distortion occurs becuase your eye is not where the camera is. If you set the camera fov to an angle that more closely appoximates what it is like to be 75 cm or so from the screen then you would not be able to see much in your virtual world. If you close one eye and place it your monitor width/2 away from the center things should all appear correct for the default fov.

Sorry but your hardware really is doing the best possible job it can.

But in my 3d programs the objects do not look strange as they move to the edge. Unless I am using a wide angel and getting a fish eye.

I am just dealing with DBpro camera now, as I am working more on the code. I would think if I pulled back and used a zoom, it might take care of the problem.

Yep, just play around with the settings until you are most happy with it.
