For school we are doing a project and one of the options was to make a 3d model of Norway. So I asked if i could do it on the computer, and i can! So i figure ill get a height map of Norway and put some stuff around the screen to make it look like a plane. Any idea where i could get hieght map of Norway that i could use in my project to make a 3d map (i mean the kind geoscape can export, and yes i checked google)

you could write a program to scan images of maps with contour lines and convert this to a heightmap or polygon based model.

It might be easier to get a map of Normway and draw the contour lines in Paint and then fill them in with the appropriate color to use as a heightmap.

Just load a picture of Norway and make it so that you can click on areas and see close up models or pictures of it.

I did a programming project for a Social Studies class once...it's deep in past pages of the DarkBasic forums now, but I had to stay home sick a day to finish it.

No, there's way too much information on that map to be used as a heightmap, for example, all that red would come out as flat land above the ocean where in real life that red is actually part of the ocean.

Apart from that though, you're going to have a very hard time finding Norway on that map!

lol.. is that a map of australia??^_^

Aye, I agree with GothOtaku, get yourself a nice simple map of norway, and draw in some height lines, and then file them in with nice solid grays, the darker the gray, the lower the level.. then when you're all done, blur the grays together and you got a nice heightmap

This could be useful http://carto.eu.org/article2457.html

All it took was a search of "norway topography" on google

That can be a height map, just fill in the colours with shades of grey.
