I play tested my game with a few friends yesterday on Deathmatch mode (up to 4 player) with 3 of us against the AI and the AI came second so we are hopeless or the AI is great! I like to think the latter!

@ hawkeye Bryce background, correct? And I know it is only a small comp, but are you going to improve the city at all? It looks like my 11 year old brothers graphics work.

Actually no, that's a skybox off of here: http://www.vaxwar.com/gamedev/media/index.asp City, yes, I know it looks weird.. If you're talking about the graphical style, no I'm not going to change that; I may up the size on it a bit tho. I'm still not certain if I'm even going to USE that city, since waypointing the enemys is kinda tough with all the nooks and crannys. I might use it in the intro, but maybe not.. it's mostly a placeholder until I get some proper levels in

hehe that's only a quick 30sec job in Light Map Maker Mostly so I wouldn't burn my eyes out looking at solid grey.

From the DBSpot forums:
Quote: "Everyone who successfully enters the competition becomes a judge.
However, you do not have to send a judging report.
Judging reports are due 2 weeks after the competition ends (July 14, 2005)
If you want to submit a report you must test every entry well enough to judge them in the following categories
Reports will be submitted to [email protected] and in this format:

Entry Name
Graphics: 1-10
Sound: 1-10
Gameplay: 1-10
Learning Curve: 1-10 (10 being very easy to learn)

You need one of these for each entry.
The scores will be tabulated and the winner will be announced on July 18, 2005."

Hmm, wont this allow everyone to bias their reports? As in, there's no stopping them into giving each and every game a low score in all categories. How about judge the games the same way you picked the theme? (three points for best game, two for second best game and so on.) I think it would make much more sense and would be fairer

This sig has been dullified!

The way I see it, getting 1 point in every category is better than getting no vote at all.

It won't be an average, but a tally, so if you were to give someone all 1s chances are you would not put them in the top 3 either.

Because the puzzle compo quite literally screwed us over, I've decided to bump the deadline to August 8th and make up a little webpage that will hopefully clear things up and attract more entrants.

Here it be:
http://www.dbspot.com/cinco.html

Actually, if everyone who's making a game for this competition could respond to this post, so I can get a good idea of the kind of interest there actually is, that'd be swell. Because, frankly, I'd rather this wasn't a waste of everyone's time and my google money and if no more than 4 people are entering I'm just gonna shut er down. And Rich will have his way.

count me in...though not sure if the August 8th dealine will help me much...going to be gone june 29th through...well...not sure when..probably the end of Augest

[edit] W00T just got a brilliant idea!...there is no way i could put sombreros in my puzzle compo entry...BUT i could make a different graphics set just for the cinco de mayo competition...that way i could enter both contests with cool games!

Quote: "This does include shipping, so I'd suggest something that is downloadable, like FPSC, DBP, Milkshape or the many plugins and little apps that help us indy programmers get on with our lives.
"

i might point out that on most purchases (at least the $75 one) at amazon.com have "super saver shipping" (or something like that) which is free...so if you spend it on say..a book, then you wouldn't have to worry about paying for shipping (may take 3 weeks though lol)

Well that's five people right there... which is one more than four, if meh algebra stands to knowledge:

Quote: "
Let X equal the unknown.
Old Swarthebery Croneadingaling is unknown. Let him be X.
How many of you don't know X?
BF, me, Jess, Andrew, Peter...
That's five.
Therefore, we have five entrants.

Take Y to be a tragety.
"Romelo and Juliet" will do. Let "Romelo and Juliet" be Y.
How many of us have a vested interest in this compo not going under...
Jimmy.
Who qualifies as 1.
Therefore, five is one more than four.
"

Well then use DBC or the SDK

Page 4, that's pretty sad. The compo goes on, however! It will never die!

This thread has gone ignored for exactly one month now.

I think it's time for a friendly reminder to all the fantastic participants of this epic competition.

You've got 1 month and 3 days. That's 1 month and 3 days of non-stop disco party!

Oh and a question has ariseden about whether or not teams who enter can split the winnings. And my answer is yes.

Carry on.

Yeaahhhhh the compo ends in 7 hours and 48 minutes. Or does it?

Yes, DBSpot is down right now, it's experiencing technical difficulties, so it will actually end when I've got the FTP account ready. Which could be today or tomorrow.

So, I hope the dozens of you entrants are prepped and ready to submit your masterpieces when the time comes.

Cinco power.

Well, I started a game once you made your post. The .zip is included here, so for the record(if the FTP is not up), I had my entry done.

I think you'll all love this.

Wait a sec... I thought the compo ended on the 15th? Anyhow, MikeS, spineysombero gives me a "unable to locate componet d3dx9_24.dll" error.

I assumed the compo is just about over. Oh well, I'm done.

Weird that the d3dx9_24.dll is missing. I'll post up a download or include it tomorrow I guess.

Ok, the compo is officially over. All of you with entries, go ahead and upload them now.

Server: ftp.dbspot.com
Username: [email protected]
Password: cinco

There has been talk of another extension, due to the utter pwning of this compo by the puzzle compo. I'll take such notions into consideration after I get a feel of the actual turnout.
