We also invented all those really bad french anglisiisms that french people have adopted, and now sound really really dumb. No offence to any non-anglism using french people. Ex: "Nous allons avoir bcp de fun aujourd'hui"

No offence, but that's just strange

Good job on being part of the country that birthed those who invented them

right green ink was invented in 1862, I mean I never see green in any pre 1862 paintings.

Technically you're both right. Honour is the European (and apparantly, Canadian) spelling of honor. It's like "color" and "colour". Don't ask me how that came about.

Some of those are wrong, e.g the light bulb. The history of the lighbulb didn't start in 1874 as listed on that site, but long before that. If we're looking for the first practical lightbulb then Joseph Swan's lightbulb of 1860 would most probably the first.

Erm... I don't think so That's a hormone hte body produces, not a man made product. Did a Canadian invent the way of getting bacteria to make insulin?

Hmmm... upon further research it appears as if the two Canadians invented the lighbulb as we have it today, and they were the first to patent it. The VERY first electric light was developed all the way back in 1809, though, by Humphrey Davey. - http://www.mysteriesofcanada.com/Ontario/first_electric_light_bulb.htm

Insulin is a hormone that is made in the body to control blood sugar levels. Diabetes is a condition where the body is unable to either make enough or make it full stop, and so sugars levels can go out of control.

A treatment patients inject themselves with the insulin hormone. The hormone used to be got from cows I think, but nowadays with genetic engineering that get bacteria to make it.

So insulin could never be invented, as its been in the human body for million of years! Although it was probably a canadian who invented the technique to make bacteria produce it.

I do not know who patented certain inventions, but as I understand it. Alexander Gram Bell, invented the telephone, who was supposidely Scottish.

Same goes for Radio Transmissions, they were a by product of another invention by a Scotsman.

Quote: "- LIGHT BULB"

Invented in England, by a young scientist who was part of the Luna Society. It was never patented as his boss did not believe electrical lamps were of any use.

Quote: "- Kerosene"

Would it not be hard to invent something before the nation was born?

I do not doubt that Candians first patented given inventions, I do question that they invented some of the things you have posted above.

There is a show on UKHistory with the guy who does the Tax Return adverts. Forget the name, but his program goes through all of his Hero's of History. Who are English innovative inventors.

Some really interesting inventions have been made over the years, and discoveries made. While people can patent what many would believe as an original idea to take credit, this does not always indicate who was the original inventor.

Ach. But English people spell it with a "u". Clues in the name (*English* language). We win Heh, watch a bit of TGP (Time gentleman please) and you will get how I would sound saying that (even though I am Welsh )

As to apple pie... I cannot believe no-one outside the US put apples inside a pie before the US was discovered like practically yesterday. I mean grief, I'm no gardening type bloke, but we could even have apple trees that are older before whatisface landed on the coast. Or something like that....

- Radio transmissions

>The first radio telegraphic message was received by Guglielmo >Marconi on Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1901.

Using equipment he developed and tested in Italy, first patented in the UK, before he finally incorporateda business in the US.

- Telephone

Invented by a German, Philipp Reis. However, Reis didn't patent his invention and a few years after his death Alexander Graham Bell patented the first telephone. Alexander Graham Bell actually lived in the USA when he developed his version of the telephone.

- Smarties

First sold in the UK as Chocolate Beans in 1937.

- Zipper

first patented by american Elias Howe in 1851

- LIGHT BULB

First patented in 1841 by British inventor Frederick DeMoleyns.

Thats interesting, most Americans think of Canada as our biggest state. And since Canada is our biggest state, all those inventions were actually invented in America.

Oh and I think the author of that website needs to do a bit more research. And as a general bit of advice, NEVER trust an internet site unless it is from an accredited person/organization. Or if you have other accredited sources to confirm the information on the internet site.

Only in the U.S. Noah Webster wanted to show that American English was different from British English so he changed the spellings of many words so that it'd be more "logical". Most changes like 'center' vs. 'centre' and 'color' vs. 'colour' came about because Webster invented them for his dictionary and not because they were in use at the time. Also, if you learn English in other countries you learn British English spelling instead of American spelling most of the time. So, American English spelling exists because Americans, once again, needed to be different from the rest of the world.

But it is so annoying with HTML made by an american. we have to use american spellings which cause us to use the wrong spelling in english when we are in school, we then get a U in our GCSE's and cant get a job so resort to light canabis smoking causing us to go ever so slightly crazy, then are sent to a secret mars peinel colony. gain the support of the workers and throw off the shackles of oppresion. but on the upside we can do some smashing site.

Any spelling mistakes are totally In tensional.

Isn't kerosene just 4 chemical elements, alkanes C12 to C15?

Actually that's another thing I've got a gripe with. It's called Kerosene in america, which suggests its an alkene (i.e. ethene, methene, propene) but it's actually an alkane which means its name should end in -ane

Yeah well, propane and propene exist, they're different chemicals. Just as ethane, ethene, methane and methene exist

Alkanes have the formula C(n) H(2n+2), Alkenes have the formula C(n) H(2n).

Yeah... different chemical to what I was referring to. I siad propene in the original post, and I meant propene, not propane >_<
