If any of you are interested, this is what's been keeping my away from coding at the weekends ... modding my badboy RC car with a big block engine and a rollcage. Took it out yesterday in our fine weather to kick up some dirt at around 40 -> 50mph. Have a peek at the vid if you're interested.

thats rather cool. liked the music too, was it one of yours?

its actually one of my dreams in life to have the free time, money and knowledge to build my own RC Vehicles (not just cars) form scratch. If all goes to plan, this will be shortly after i retire at the age of 24

hehe. The track is Dillinja - Human B-Bop ... just seemed to suit that vid.

Yep, it would be cool to build an RC from scratch, but very expensive. I have spent £1200 on mine so far, including fuel, batteries, chargers, upgrades and the original truck. Not cheap, but quality hobby. Basically, DB for the evenings and the RC at the weekend. You'd find it really satisfying to build your own truck, and you get mad respect from young kids and mums with pushchairs down the park.

You guys have loads of hobby stores to get parts - tower hobbies I hear is good, but ebay is a good place to get pretty much everything you need. You'll need to do a lot of reading up to make one from scratch though. I'd base it on an existing make/model first. I have a Traxxas Revo, so if I was gonna build my own truck, I'd base it on the Revo, buying a Revo chassis, and then buying custom parts known to work with the Revo. I wouldn't try and do everything from scratch, as it's never gonna live up to the precision engineering of a stock truck.
