Ooouch - nasty looking buttons!

<Shameless bit of preadvertising follows>

In a couple of weeks (hopefully) you'll be able to download a demo of my current project Vi-Studio, which would be ideal for making your player interface. It will mean you can create things like nice looking buttons by simply dragging and dropping them where you want, and you won't have to worry about coding all that 'if mouseclick' business, as it will write all that code for you:

You could detect sprite hits. There's countless snipplets all around the forum. The if there is a hit/collision, trigger what you want to happen using if/then.
