Newcomers DBPro Corner / Please help with making sprites and landscapes

I know this seems like a stupid newb question but i cannot fully grasp how to make detailed landscapes and characters. Do i need like a cartography shop and character shop?

Cartography shop is for creating simple levels, mostly indoor ones. Character shop is for rigging already created modles so they are animated.

For landscapes you might want to look into getting Geoscape3D. It can be found here http://geoscape.thegamecreators.com/

I suggest that you download the trial versions and see what you like best. Most of them have tutorials you can follow to help understand how to use them.

You also could be helped with Valve Hammer (Worldcraft) and / or Milkshape 3D.
Note that Gamespace 3D provides you great functionality, but the usage is more than tricky.
Make sure to get hands on some good tutorial stuff.
