...is not bad at all - should be quite good.

Apparently it wont be shown in America for quite a while (if at all - the Sci-fi channel has refused it), so if you cant see it : HA HA

ummm! a scintillating demonstration of total lack of talent/plot/fx/scriptwriting or anything else realy, actualy makes Blakes7 look good so far, and the NESTENES for episode 1?, they always where a laughable menace, just the sort of thing somebody with no knowledge of Sci-Fi would chose as an enemy (scriptwriter without a clue....hey! it's weird and oddball.. that'll do), pathetic!, bring back Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee, I see they stuck to the tradition of each episodes budget only costing £1000 though.

That was okay. Camp, but okay. They're probably using a sh*t enemy for the first episode to wean people into the new doctor and characters. Better than most of the crap that comes from America anyway...

I'm waiting for the Daleks episode (EP 6) before I pass judgement.

Daleks...yeah! there was a dustbin with attitude, real badasses, you could forget they where mobility challenged, but if they (BBC) HAVE given em legs I`m gonna puke the whole thing about Daleks was they where so motivated they could take over the universe without using stairs (who said using stairs was a requirement for galactic domination anyway?).

@ Scraggle: Exactly, it was always cheap and tacky... it's good that way.

I think Mentor perhaps remembers "his Dr.Who"; a previous incarnation. If that's the case then I'm sure you'll have fond memories of it etc... and anything new that comes along won't really seem as good. That's the same with anything though, really.

For someone new to Dr.Who, of my generation, the new one is pretty good. (if laughable.)

did anyone notice the heavy use of digital flame/explosion fx, all those burning steel beams are a bit of a giveaway , they shouldn`t have used someone with such an heavy accent for the Doctor though, strains the limited credibility a bit, I kept thinking he was going to nut someone and steal their car radio.

Ha ha ha... I'm suprised nobody noticed a massive underground warehouse containing a pit of lava was beneath the Millenium Dome... well, actually, in all fairness - the entrance was an unlocked manhole in the middle of a busy London street... like anyone would ever find that.

you have a habit of opening manhole covers up there Drew?
can't say (as a londoner :p) i've ever actually had the urge to..

the begining explosion effect was kinda iffy, and the bin was kinda cheesy.. but on the whole I think it rocked!

the presentation of it was actually quite entising, not like the regular BBC stuff you see. i liked the camera play alot, and the tardis effect was awesome.

it's cool they've kept the old sound, tardis style, and music!

totally reminds me of the Doctor who I grew up with.. can't remember his name but he was the really weird one, in the early 80s.
also found it kinda funny.. I think Eccelston makes a cool new Doctor.

I didn't I thought it was pretty good - didn't like the new musical arrangement though. The SFX were good - they certainly spent a fair bit of money with that...

More or less - she'll take a bit of getting used to... Typical female - talks too much...

We've now got three sci-fi programs on terrestrial TV now - Dr Who, Captain Scarlet and Enterprise...

Hey hey. It has to be pretty bad to be in the Doctor Who tradition. Come on, if it was a bit better then it wouldn't be the same, and any worse would have to have a Grundy tag attached to it.

Saying that, I was never a Doctor Who fan, so can't be bothered myself. Plus the guy looks like he belongs in Pets Practice or somesuch, rather than in a semi-gay bar full of guys who should be in local theatre (the scarves, the hair, etc.)

Cheers Erm. Looks slightly like a Darlek...

PS. Blake's Seven ruled! Although Space 1999 was better.... unless you watch it nowadays....

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

One thing about blakes 7 though

Why were some of the spaceships built from bricks

(You can tell they were bricks, painted with white paint in some scenes)

I didn't like the plot much, it seemed like they needed more than 45 mins so had to chop out a load of the middle. Overall it was ok, although I lost interest towards the end, had a good chuckle at the plastic hand/face grabbing scene though. It's a lot better then some of the stuff I've seen and I'll probably watch it again.

I watched this a few weeks ago (the BBC released it on their web site in a limited form! which then spread like wildfire.. heh, surprise surprise) and thought it was great. Billie was really good, but then she's a far better actress than singer (anyone who watched her in the modern day Canterbury Tales should agree, anyone who didn't - do so before passing judgement). Considering they had an awful lot to fit into one episode they did it well - especially considering a vast percentage of the younger viewers may have never even see a Dr. Who episode before.

I liked the way Billie took the piss of the tardis being a police box and the bit where she says to him "who are you Dr?" and he just smiled at the camera. The dummies were quite amusing, the lava pit monster suitably cheesy, the London Eye turning into a monster ray made me laugh (it wasn't the Dome chaps, sorry) and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.

Shame they synth'ed up the title music though.

The only cloud in the Dr Who silver lining will be the self-proclaimed hater of Dr Who - Michael Grade, who will no doubt look for any chance to axe it - again.

I didn't like it, even when viewing with "tongue-in-cheek", ignoring the bad effects. I liked the bin bit, as it was meant to be funny, but I can't actually stand Billie Piper or the new Doctor (don't know his name)

I take it people have not seen Gone in 60 Seconds (he\'s the films bad guy.. who\'s an a**hole to boot ), or 28 Days Later.

There are a few other quite big budget movies he\'s been in.
I think this is kinda like the whole \'who is Sean Bean?\', despite being in some bloody famous roles (006 - Goldeneye, Aragon\'s Brother in LOTR) he is still pretty much a face you kinda know you\'ve seen before but not sure from where kinda person.

He\'s quite a good actor and yeah he usually plays a more gritty bad guy. Don\'t see what\'s wrong it Billy Piper (Evans ).. you\'ll always have people who don\'t like something.

In all honesty, the effects weren\'t bad. If you watch the tardis disappear, or any of the camera effects in action. The team doing the CG obviously have talent.. Things like the explosion appear to be tamed down as not to be scarey.

Remember that this show is on at 7pm, and is still designed for kids to enjoy just as much as adults. You can\\\'t have people spurting blood everywhere as they die (which is an intricate part of Dr Who lol) or explosions looking like realistic attacks.

I think it is just being dumbed down rather than cheap/crappy.
