The other day was just like any other. wake up, go to school , got to social studies go to computer lab. now when i go to the computer lab, im always pesered with "Jase help me". Ussaly its the girls that ask for help (if i dont help they get sort of a demonic look in thier eyes.) then i got see whats the problem, one person cant find his folder to save in, why was that? well he opened annnex (our folder which contains our classes) from there youre supposed to go to your teacher then your name. however they didnt have the common sense to click on thier class. Another fine case of idiots on computers was the other day when someone was trying to get the computer on. acording to them they had tried everything, except pushing the button under the moniter, the one marked "power".

Just because people are illiterate at computers, does not mean they are idiots. Computers are only easy to use if you know how.

It really bad when you have the media center lady that MUST explain things like:

How to turn on a computer
How to use the internet
How to save files correctly

EVERYTIME a class tries to use the computers. Even the teachers are sick of her. I have no idea why the school even pays here as she offers no use AT ALL. Everything she tries to say is already common knowledge among the 1200 kids at my school.

It's really important not to be annoying when you're good at computers.

Imagine if you got shoved into a plane and the pilot was like

"Press the de-stabilised transforthmeticuliser"

"This one?"

"That one?!?!? Ha! You suckkk!!!!"

I know the feeling...

Had the same problem at college and University. Also get the same problem at work and at home - everyone I know seems to be computer illiterate...

Unfortunately the fear of The Computer causes all commonsense to pack up and take a 10 year, one way holiday to Outer Mongolia...

It's EXTREMELY Annoying when your in a beginners computer class. They say "If the computer crashes, DON'T DO ANYTHING! TELL THE TEACHER!" What's he gonna do, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete? Or press "Don't Send" on the MS Error report thing?

Yes...pressing ctrl+alt+del yourself will somehow make the computer self-destruct, but if the teacher does the same thing...it is fine. "School Computers 101"

our teachers wont let us bring floppies from school or reuse floppies more than 3 times just incase of viruses but for whatever reason we can bring (data and put them in pc)cds to school and download things plus it actually hurt our education at one point- because they wouldnt let us bring floppies to school i had to completely rewrite something that i already wrote at home but my mums printer wasnt working-also i didnt have my pc then so i didnt havge a cdburner

It's worse when your teacher trys to compeat with you. I swear to god this is the truth. One day I'd finished all my IT work so I brought in a book about Javascript (one of those beginner ones) my teacher saw me reading it - told me to stop - and made me sit at my computer.

The next lesson he had this huge Javascript book out and began telling me all that he'd learnt.

*sigh*

Are you in a class with a bunch of computer Illiterate idiots?

As Drew Cameron said, just because someone doesn't know how to use a computer doesn't make them an idiot, I could say you tried to make an MMORPG and lied about it, making you an idiot, but I don't because everyone's good and bad at different things.

You also mention that they don't do the obvious thing but if someone put you in charge of a nuclear silo and told you to turn it on you probably wouldn't press the big red button with "power" written on without asking if it was right because you wouldn't be 100% sure about what would happen if you pressed it.

It's true, I've seen a few people in my time who don't know how to use a computer, but rather then laugh at how stupid they are and how 1337 I am I just tell them what button to press.

There would have been a time when everyone here couldn't use computers (except maybe Jess who's a god within himself and changed reality so he could become a mod). So how's about you stop calling them idiots and go make your MMORPG or ORPG or whatever you want us all to beleive it is.

(ohh, did that seem a bit bitchy, I sure hope not)

True words.

It's not the people's fault they aren't pale lonly computer nerds who live on internet forums where they boast about an MMORPG they're making while being grounded by thier Mommy or spend the lunch discussing new hard-drive technology (if you can find someone to talk to that is)

Been there done that!

It is funny how some people have no idea about computers.

But it is also funny when no life, geeky me tries to watch football(the crappy American kind, I love the other one that the rest of the world plays) and doesn't have a clue as to why there are white lines on the grass every three feet! Ugh, I'm sad.

Wtf?

Now, I really did laugh at this one...

HOWEVER! I am a mere mortal.

I'm a normal guy - I go to Uni ( and am studying Games Tech - the only Games specific course available in my section of Australia [ I'm so proud! ] ) and I may have a girlfriend ( sort of... gotta see what's happening after Uni break's over. I don't like the fact we did a one-night thing It makes me feel so non-commital ) and I have a life - I like to skate, get drunk, surf, get drunk, socialize, get drunk, have parties... and, did I mention getting drunk?

So, you see... I thank you for your praise, and you all have to look-out for my YakMan! game coming up soon

Oh, and I forgot about the point of the thread...
I too hate it when teachers know less and try to cover it up by talking louder than you, or trying to show off their little bit of knowledge.
I remember in HighSchool, my Software Design teacher said he had a web-design business for a little bit while starting as a teacher. He showed us the website he used to sell his skills...
It was one step up from a freewebs template - He'd clicked and draged some generic images around in ( a Pirated copy of ) DreamWeaver.
Also, my step-dad sells and "fixes" computers as his only source of income, and has done for the last 6 or so years, and every day, I swear he gets more and more stupid. Thank God I don't have to live with him asking me every 10 minutes "What's the command to format the computer?" ( he actually asks me that time and time again *shakes head* ) any more

So... There you have it, kids.
*waves hand in a general, encapsulating manner*
That's how baby Penguins are made.

yes its so funny, the computer people at my school really are quite worthless. they cant manage a network, database, the computers systems are always crashing etc.

there is only one person i think in the whole district who knows what he is doing. he goes from school to school fixing stuff that the computer people hired by the schools break or dont maintain. he wears a black trench coat and keeps computer parts in his bag. Once he randomly pulled out a new hard drive lol.

I go to school at DeVry, a place primarily for computer degrees. You wouldn't believe how many ppl go into the same program as me, hoping to become programmers, but they haven't a clue how to use a computer from the start! I assumed when I went there, that most ppl who go for a computer degree have had some prior interest and self-study ahead of time. NOT! My program also has the highest drop-out rate in the area, and fortunately I'm far enough into the program that only intelligent ppl are left.

About two years ago, I joined a short-term networking course at one of my local colleges.

The first day I found out where I was going and sat in with the others. When tutor started by holding up the mouse of one computer saying "Now everyone, this is called a mouse!" about half the class instantly put their hands in air shouting "I shouldn't be here!".

It turned out they had sent everyone for the networking course to a 'computers for beginners' course.

I don't suffer from insanity:

I enjoy every minute of it!

Jeku,
Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

Phaelax,
My Games Technology course is kina like that. However, it's a course ( obviously ) for making Games, and there's people in there that haven't programmed before. They're all good computer users, and are picking up Java pretty darned quickly too, but it's still funny that so many people actually go into these courses expecting that they can just pick it up and go!

Jess, i'm doing the exact same course at Murdoch uni here in WA, and its just the same. In fact, i've heard 4 different discriptions of binary, none of them making much sense to anyone who doesn't know what it is. I'm just waiting till second year for the game related subjects
