Two days ago my 24 Mbit account was suspended while they move the wires from my former flat to my new flat - and now I´m sitting on a simple 2 Mbit line.

Everything is soooo slooooow!

The worst thing is, since the state phone company is responsible for moving the bits of wire from one phone exchange to another, it's going to take weeks until my account is resumed.

How am I going to cope?

I'm feeling reeeeally miserable right now. Everything is taking AGES.

that sounds horribly spoiled how can everything be slow on a 2mbit line?, you should try my 56k connection (normaly reads between 38 and 42k) if you want slow, 2mbits is a dream connection in my part of the world (Lincolnshire UK), phew, what I could do with 2mb/sec

Mentor.

PS: what my suppliers say about their premium, top of the range 1 mbs service (not available around here yet).....

suppose it depends on what you call broadband.

PC1:XP, P4 3ghz, 1gig mem, 3x160gig hd`s, Radeon 9800pro, 6 way speakers.
PC2: Linux, AMD 2ghz, 512mb ram, FX5200 ultra, 16 bit SB.
PC3: XP, laptop, intel 2.6ghz celeron, ATI mobility 9000, 256mb

I have 4Mbps.

This is plenty fast. Unless you viewing many pages filled with nothing but huge bitmap images and downloading outrageous amounts of stuff, then 4Mbps is fast enough for anything. So.. 2Mps is half the speed...this would still be plenty good, even 4Mps is almost too much for some people. So if you have 24Mbit at all then stop complaining or send it my way.

Nobody here should be complaining except me. When I am at home the fastest I can connect is usually 19200. If I am really lucky I can sometimes connect at 21600. On fast days my downloads are at around 2 kbps. So there.

ouch. At my mom's house...it is like that. At that point I feel it is better to have no internet at all...because then at least you know you don't have internet rather than the dillusion that you do with a slow connection.

What about people who have no food to eat today? How do you think they feel?

What about people that can't make enough money to pay for their homes, and are thrown out onto the street - how do you think they fell?

How about somebody who has lost their son or daughter, or husband or wife in Iraq? How do you think they feel?

You have a slow internet connection, and you feel really miserable right now? What are you going to do when your problems get bigger than a slower internet connection? I shudder to think how you'll feel then!

Get a life! Get off the internet! Read a book! Ride a bike! Spend some time with your family! If you are truly serious, that a slow internet connection makes you feel really miserable, then there is not much hope left for you.

There is SO much more to life than the Internet.

I might not be entirely serious. No. I don't think so, at least.

Blame website designers.

56k used to be fine, back when designers would be creative and try and get the best looking site that still loaded really quickly, load speed was the major bragging point.

Now designers use Flash and assume the planet is on 24mbit connections rather than optimising.

But I DO have a funny reaction, which shows how spoilt you can get. Really. I'm used to 24 Mbit now, and I find myself feeling peaks of annoyment when my 2 Mbit line doesn't perform the same as my 24 Mbit line.

It's ridiculous. Of course it is. But still, my fingers drum against the desk of impatience.

im from the belief that a site should load quickly yet i still use flash as well.

flash based sites with content thats optimised can be faster then standard html in many regards for the features available to you.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

Even that's taking it abit to far, I completly agree. I have MUCH bigger problems in my life than merly being stuck with a fast conection that's just not fast enough for me. Dial-up users like us should get more respect. (And as for "problems in my life" ; I'm not referring to internet related)

Everyone has problems Megaton, but they don't make smaller problems, (even though I'd scarecly call a super quick 2mbps connection a problem) any less of a problem.

@Tobias Quan: Don't be so high and mighty about it, the guy's annoyed at a "slow" connection, nothing more. It's got nothing to do with people in Iraq or starving children so don't rope them in.
