1) Is not professional version.
2) Is made by microsoft
3) Is buggy
4) Compared to others, is not real customizable
5) Go to 3.

that first one is all about HIS problems with computers, i dont see any bugs

the 3rd one, i read the date and went on "May 24, 2002"

4: "The test center staff ran across another SP2-related problem"
5: Looks like Nero's problem, they just want to admit it

now stop bashing on software when you dont know why you are bashing on it

If you're going to be developing .net web apps and the like, then you'll want to have Windows XP pro. Other than that, I don't know of any real problems with Home (though I've never used it)

Well from personal experiences, compared to what is available... for its price...it is one of the worst OS's I have had. Microsoft constantly haunts me. Even Internet Explorer has decided to stop working almost completely...the only work part is the ability to connect to ftp. If you wish me to go into all my personal detail I shall, but the point is...I very much dislike the majority of Microft products and I do not care if you agree or not.

I recommended Pro OVER Home...does not mean I like that one either though.

To be honest...screw microsoft and go with something different all together...but when I say this...most people wouldn't do it anyway.

I've got to say XP Pro is the best OS I have used so far - I;ve gone from 3.1, 95, 98 and 2000 (as well as some fixing experience with ME *shudder* - I hate it).

My main gripe is the amount of spyware I get - I have to run daily ad-aware scans just to stop the pop ups.

I'm getting Mandrake 10.1 (on an old comp) just to try Linux out.

thing i hate xp home for is not enough user control plus i use my machine as a "generic" server for my virtual pc's so far all i got working though for inet is windows 98
yet another reason why i have 2k plus i have no use for 16bit development or usage so that dont bother me
windows xp pro also has quite a few other useful features especially in networking and is quite a bit more stable plus it has blue instead of green(lol)

edit:
what i hate on linux is a lot of stuff is not very user freiendly and for redhat9 installing everything but servers i still have 2 hours left and it started at 3:45(hours:minutes)

X-Patch x-patch.exe(gui):75% make.exe:5% x-patch.dll(runtime dll):0% developed on win xp home sp2

You may want to upgrade that to a dvd-rom drive, so you can copy from one dvd to another directly..

Also, you may want to get an lga775 mobo.. I've been checking prices and it's going to cost you about 20 dollars more on average, much nicer to upgrade later with though
(for example, if you wanted to get the 64bit p4)

Also, if you upgrade to the lga775 socket, most mobo's come standard with sata, so spend the extra 5 bucks and get a nice sata hdd.

As for your rom drives, keep those on an ide channel, as there's not much speed increase having sata rom-drives and youll save a few bucks..

I would guess that you're only going to spend 20 to 30 more bucks upgrading to said stats, and it's definately worth the investment!

Check prices on http://www.newegg.com you may see cheaper stuff..

You may want to buy the processor heatsink/fan separately, and get a refurbished p4 from newegg.. you'll save about 20 bucks that way.

Unless wherever your shopping is cheaper..

Have you ignored my comment?

seriously P4 is not a good processor...

I would avoid it at all costs. Most new people getting PC's are getting AMD 64 (like me).

Meh. I would allways choose AMD over Intel any day though.

nah, I'd get an intel over amd myself

And if you get the lga775, you'll be able to get the 64bit p4 when the price comes down a bit more (it's about 270usd now)

As for your second cdrom drive, I was saying think about getting a dvd-rom drive instead.. That way you can copy directly from one dvd to another...

The fastest P4's are faster than the fastest AMD 32 bit (3400+).
All fanboys should get dragged out of their homes and shot.

AMD 64's are NOT the way to go! When 64 bit applications become more common, then get a full blown 64.
