Hello does anybody ever make up cool techno music in your minds and can
play them in your mind over and over but cant find a way to save them somewhere and theres no way to write them down? its infuriating isnt it? well I am going to write a program that you can record and save your own techno music but ill need some help... first of all ill need some sound media such as wav synth notes , drum beats , guitar pieces and some music loops. i want to build it where you can type in what kind of beats you want and make them repeat in a rhythym its really hard to explain but i got it all planned out in my mind. I will also need to learn how to save files through dbpro. i would like to make it to where you can save your file as a midi but i dont know how to do that yet.. help would be greatly appreciated. if anybody is interested in helping me create this program respond immediately plz
thx
peace

lol i would prepare to be flamed

but really you dont know anything on formats or even to read/write files and you want to write soemthing thatrequires extensive file skills and gui
also i think dbp might not be the language for a music mixer with so much overhead

i would use purebasic or c/c++ or bcx(basic to c translator) for a music mixer

also why dont you just use what is already out there have u even googled up on music mixer

X-Patch x-patch.exe(gui):75% make.exe:5% x-patch.dll(runtime dll):0% developed on win xp home sp2

I wrote a music tracker in DBPro years ago, and I must say it's not for green horns - perhaps a simpler mixing desk type deal would be more fun. Like you'd have music loops which could be sampled yourself, then you play these loops at different pitches so they play for exactly the same length of time - then you just have to loop them all and allow the volumes to be messed around with. It'd be like a remix system that you feed your loops into then mix them together. It's actually easier to find loops than it is to find decently sampled instrument packs.

I want to build my own thing though... I know i sound like a n00b but i can do this! i know how to load the sounds and play them... all i need to know is how to record and save... that shouldnt be too hard is it? can someone show me an example of how to record for a certain amount of time such as 5 minutes and how to stop recording at any time with the press of a key? My mixer is going to be awesome trust me dont question my ability until you've seen my work. plz help

There is something which was posted not long ago by Ric which made sounds and saved them to a wave file, ill try to find it, you will probably need to know the structure of the sound files to export them.

Heres the link to that code: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=49008&b=6

There is the record sound command. To do what your talking about you would need extensive knowledge of the basics of how a midi works. Not to ruin your idea. I like your idea and it is possible but not easy.

I just opted for some code supplied by Hubdule from the German forums, it just records the output from whatever you select in the windows volume controls. Like in VSD Tracker, you'd open up the mixer and set recording to Mixed Output or whatever your card calls it, set the volume quite low, then the code would run a .dll to record this output while the DBPro app plays it.

I really don't think you appreciate just what is involved, I'm not questioning your ability to do this because you've shown no ability to do this. Simplifying it into a 'just tell me how to record and save' just worsens your case. If you knew what was involved, you'd know that it isn't a simple case of using the 'RECORD EVERYTHING TO WAVE "file.wav",Length' command.

We're not trying to put you down, or your project idea - we're saying that it's a complex task to do all that your app would need to do, regardless of what you've done in the past.

Yes i know the record sound command but that only records 1 sound i want to make it to where you can press a certain key to record and it waits a certain amount of time and you can stop recording any time you want with the press of a key and after you record all the sounds together then you can save it and replay it would that be hard to make?
and btw thx for not flaming me everybody

It would be very complex, because you'd have to convert the .wav files to memblocks, then build a whole new .wav file which is complex in itself, but the real pain would come from mixing all the data to make the resulting .wav.
