Hey all,

Anyone else see thisin the newsletter (March edition)

[href] http://www.ongamedev.com/contest.html[/href]

Don't get much info about it from the link but I've been wanting to make a 2d shooter for ages and now I've got an excuse. Anyone else planning to enter?

It's been recommended I enter Mercenaries 2. It'd give me an excuse to finish it! (plus I think its a pretty good looking game and stands a chance )

I'm considering entering with a project I've been dieing to make but have never felt competent enough to do so. Plus, a lot of the features in it would be easily portable to my survival horror, so I'd effectively be getting work done on that aswell.

Simple... yet fun!

Hmmmm seems like an intersting competetion idea. Anyone know how they are going to grade them though? 1st 2nd 3rd or best graphics, best sound etc.

Apparantly there is no comp this year, I think if there is a comp, it'll be through PC Gamer and probably be for FPSC.

Can I ask a question? Why do people on this message board abbreviate both the words "competition" and "computer" as "comp"?

Here are two threads currently in this forum:
* onGamedev's Programming comp (here, comp means competition)
* New Comp layout (here, comp means computer)

I've also seen lots of people call a competition a "compo". Where did that come from? I've never heard someone in America say the word "comp" or "compo".

I think it stems from old computer magazines (comp mags) - mostly Spectrum mags like 'Your Sinclair' would use these terms and they've kinda stuck with the rest of the computer jargon that's amassed over time.

The British like nothing more than abreviating and shortening and slanging their language.
