This game looks right up my street, I've heard nothing but good things about it, but alas it's sold out in all the game stores here.

So until I can get my copy, anyone played it?, comments? (no spoilers please).

Nice unviolent screenie:

Yeah, I was thinking about it to get for my birthday (this Weds!) and all the reviews I've seen are very good. According to friends i's unputdownable and amazing.

Although I may opt for TS2 instead.

TS3? - It does look great, so does that Strangers Wrath, but the thing is - both of those will be on sale for £15 or so on XBox in a couple of months, so I'd tend to wait despite my deep love for the TS series. One XBox title that deserves serious consideration is Men of Valor, 2-Player mode is awesome, it's clearly the best console 'nam game available.

This was supposed to be the game that brought the Gamecube out of it's current state...unfortuanly it's no longer GC exclusive. I watched many Reviews of this on G4tv and I gota say the detail is amazing.

I would get it if my ol' Cube wasen't stolen. -_-'

Yeah I was watching a couple of vids yesterday, like a gameplay one and a making off one as well - and it just made me want it more!

I suppose if your gonna steal a console, the easiest one to steal is the gamecube, it's got a handle, it won't break on the way to the car, and you don't have to turn it sideways to get it out the front door.

My bro has ordered this game. It would be here if it wasn´t for the fact that the postman has taken a holiday. I´ll miss it completly by the time I get back from my trip. My bro doesn´t take long to get through these games. Oh well. I´ll hopefully have Betan Kaitos waiting for me when I get back.

This may not be of interest to you; but I'm a really big fan of Oddworld. I've got birthday cards, T-shirts, games, free merchandise I've been sent by them from E3 etc... the works. I used to run a fan website of the Oddworld series, and I got the "Fan of the Month" award once at www.oddworld.com, I love Oddworld!!!!!!!!

Basically, I'd like to plug for Strangers Wrath - alot. It's very, very, very, very, very good and funny too. You should buy it yesterday.

I beat it about 2 months ago, Awesome game for a RE game. I'm a silent hill fanboy so you usually hear me say "aww hell no, its RE", but this one was just too damn good. By far the best GC game ever.

By the way, It is a bit gory at points. Especially with exploding heads
Somewhat spoiler:

at £40 second hand, your practically stealing it anyways :p

Resident Evil 4 is most certainly a *must-buy* and not because I'm a H-U-G-E RE fan, but it's just so different. Still feels like good 'ol Resi Evil underneath.

There are a few leaks of the PS2/XB versions that are due out (dec US / feb EU) are just crap. Was listening to an interview of one of the developers who said something along the lines of, 'unfortunately due to the playstation's lack of power, we are finding that there is so much we are having to cut on a daily basis.' the interviewer then asked him about the X-Box version, to which the reply was. 'it would seem that these consoles are about the same processing, so we could fit more enemies in game if we wanted. We are surprised at how much power we have to spend on trying to get the graphics close.'

The comments made kinda spured alot of 'Half-Life 2' questions, because it was touted to being released on the X-Box. End result was no one could really answer why the Gamecube shouldn't be able to handle it if the X-Box could.

Alot of home truths about why Capcom are quite obviously vearing to Nintendo again were discovered.

Well seeing as how that's, oh, about 8 months away, they still have lots of time to 'un-crap' the game, wouldn't you say?

I will probably be picking this game up for the NGC anyway, once it hits the bargain bin (I really can't afford any new games right now).

<<<I'VE AVOIDED SPOILERS BUT THERE MAY BE SOME IN HERE, SORRY>>>

I've had Resi 4 for a few weeks now. I've finished it on normal and it took 19 hours but those 19 hours will be the best you've ever played. Unlike other games there is absolutely NO unnecessary and dull padding where you just wander around shooting repetitively. Every room is like a new brilliant set-piece and all I can say is its incredible. Every moment in the 19 hours gets the adrenaline pumping and its way more cinematic than any film. And then theres more...

Mercenaries is an amazing game, and isn't merely slapped on for a bit of longevity. It will have you playing for hours and its a different experience every time - since your free to approach the level in countless ways. Its also incredibly difficult. Getting 4 stars on a couple of areas is killer, though never hard enough to put you off trying, and then theres 5!!! At first it might appear a bit naff, but once your going for stars it'll be a breathtaking and terrifying experience.

Assignment Ada is also bunged in, where you play as another character on another adventure. To be honest, its fun but lackluster compared to the other modes. Its a little too short and easy in my oppinion and lacks the interaction with Leon I was hoping for. Compared to other games it brilliant, it is just shadowed by the rest of Resi 4. Oh well, its only a bonus mini-game so who cares.

The best bit...professional!!! You've seen screen shots where enemies duck and strafe out of your line of fire. Previously its scarely done but in professional they do it all the time. Whats one hill billy ambling towards you with a pitchfork when you've got a ton of shot gun shells? No problem! Whats five hill billies sprinting towards you with pitch forks when you've got but a single lucky bullet in your handgun...

If you've got the choice of which console version to get, get the Gamecube one. The controls are perfectly suited to the controller and the graphics ARE better. In the PS2 port they had to reduce the 24 bit textures to 4 bit textures in order to handle the game. Considering the amount of detail in the textures this will be disasterous. Also, apparently the lighting effects aren't quite as good. For example, when Leon stands next to a blue flame his shoulder turns blue, but his dark side remains unchanged. Although gameplay is important and will probably be the same, the gamcube version will be the better choice.

Simple... yet fun!

I'm no fan of PS2, even though I'm getting one this weekend as I'm fixing my sons old fatty PS2 since I replaced it with a new sleek and skinny PS2. I have an XBox, but really I only tend to play FPS games on that, the Gamecube is where I look for gameplay . I've been mostly playing Pikmin2, which is my fave GC game. It always surprises me when I see something subtle in a game, like a little effect that is just there, it's not being camera tracked or arrogantly shown off, it's just there doing it's job. I find that a lot in GC games, like some of the trickling water effects and refraction effects in Pikmin2, or the awesome metal 'shaders' on some of the treasure. IMO the XBox can push the most polygons, Gamecube can make them look best, and PS2 can hand out breath mints for all I care.

I'm sending scouts out again, hopefully either Game or Gamestation will have it in today, that's 5 shops I've tried so far.

I buy games from Game.net, cause free delivery (3-5days) and your sent it when new copies arrive.. plus they tend to be cheaper by a few quid most of the time.

Yeah, that's the ghist of the inteverview Van.
I think it was said best in the Matrix - 'The programs that do their job, and do it well go unnoticeable. The bad ones though, well you hear about them all the time.' ., it totally describes something I find to be true with games.

The best game graphics are the ones that you don't notice, until you stop to look at them. I mean it is easy to miss from screenshots the true awesome graphics of Resident Evil 4, but when you see it in action and realise 'jesus this is actually 3D!' especially on HDTVs which have crisp hi-res graphics with no slow downs.

You look at another GameCube title, say Starfox Adventures. The game looks sweet, without being ultra hi-poly or hi-res texture filled. It the little details that do it too, like the grass sways as and moves as you walk through it... or smoke as it hits a surface disperses in all directions.

Perhaps a big mistake a lot of the programmers around here make is trying to make thier games advanced that people with 'wow' at when, something that is barely noticeable would do the same job.

Like... I love the touch of when your running through the old buildings, every movement you make throws up dust.

There are so many subtle features in Resi 4, which you can just about notice if you look carefully.

When you reach the village and watch the villagers going throuhg their daily routines its amazing. Theres a bloke pushing a wheel barrow, and although its the only wheel barrow pushed in the whole game, they even made the front wheel produce realistic dust as it moves around through the dirt.

Also, you can throw eggs at people. Although it appears to be just for fun, it can be useful to chuck it in a face, kick them over and knife them. However, its very rarely used - didn't use it first time through - yet they still make it realistically crack over whatever it hits. I expected it to look naff, but they did a great job.

The level designers did a great job. There are many rooms where you are in it for about 30 seconds or so, yet the unique detail they've put in it is amazing. For example, there are outdoor sections in the last chapter where you can see vast detail for what seems like miles. Turns out you don't go near to any of it, yet the details still there and can really only be seen through a scope. Its simply mind blowing!

Simple... yet fun!

Plus if you have a rifle and a tall ladder, you can look up ashleys skirt

So i was curious... mostly cause when you do it on short falls she goes "eww you perv" or something like that.

Oh and the best quote of the game "The president sure did equip you with some 'balistics'."

I am not a fan of Resident Evil. It is too hard!

I think that Resi games always appear harder than they are, because people find them scary. If they were happy clowns chasing you, you would probably think that the game is too easy. "Oh no, a happy clown is ambling slowly towards me in a well lit room and he might put a pie in my face, meaning I have to combine a green flannel with some red soap to wash it off". If you played that, it would seem pretty easy. The main difficulty with Resi for most people is overcoming the fear. Resi 4 gets it perfect. It doesn't scare you most of the time, it gets the adrenaline pumping even more though. Of course there are some truly terrifying moments in there - despite being able to continue from the entrance. For those who've already played it or want some spoilers below is my list of my top scaryiest moments in Resi 4.

Res Evil is not actually too difficult once you get past the initial jolt of action that we usually get, like the first part is always quite tricky, then you tend to find a base of sorts, and it gets easier because instead of reloading the game when your about to die, you can just explore and try to figure things out, like learning exactly what you need to do ala Groundhog Day. To play like that you have to really like the game though, casual players tend not to complete many of these sorta games.

Resi4 has to be the next game on my shopping list once my wife and I have completed Champions: Return to Arms (on the PS2). We did buy Mario Party 5 recently (the one with the bundled microphone for voice input) and that was a complete blast, but Champions is taking up the most time at the moment. It's just Baldurs Gate with an EverQuest skin pack, but I love it

You played Pikmin Rich? - if not you should keep your eyes peeled in the used section in Game (or whatever), damn fine game that one (and it's sequel too). People often assume it's some girly cutesy Worms rip off, but it's really not like that - it's damn challenging.

Pikmin and Pikmin 2 are awesome games. They are perhaps a little too easy, but its great fun anyway. Pikmin 2 had its moments of difficulty but was never too hard. If you want a challenge, get Viewtiful Joe. Its got a perfect learning curve which starts low and gradually climbs up through the clouds and into space, its really fun aswell.

I'm lost to what TS3 stands for... I thought it ment Time Spliters 3 : Future Perfect, but then some things people have said don't seem to add up.

Pikmin is definately one of those games that only gets better when drunk. Just a crazy crazy game.
I played Pikmin2 against my brother a few times, and he whopped my ass at it, so i'm gonna stick to Soul Calibre 2 when i play him at things heh

Quote: "I think that Resi games always appear harder than they are, because people find them scary"

Heh, trust me. Mike ain't scared of anything in Resi Evil, he'll sit and watch me play it.. he's just crap at playing it.
Rather than running and trying to stay alive he'll stand there and waste an entire clip on a zombie.

I think he got quite far in Resi Evil 2 on the N64, that's one of the easiest; but for the Cube, Resident Evil is the one he tried to play and even from my perspective (seasoned RE player) ... it is just ridiculously hard.

I mean in RE0 you can shot 3-4 bullets in something and it tends to drop dead until you get close to the end. In RE, you can empty entire clips into just one zombie and he'll still be after you. With Ammo SUPER scarce and Health few and far between. Well even on the easy setting, I struggled to complete it.

Saw on alot of site of people boasting 'oh I turned off the auto-defense items and played it without using them on hard mode', but I seriously reckon those people are full of it. I mean the original was tough, but playing it again now it's quite enjoyable and not that much harder than the others... Playing the GC Remake, is just ridiculous.

It's like MGS:Twin Snakes, on Easy it was harder than the original.
I've completed it on Hard now got so many lovely dog tags, but still I'd hate to think that new setting is like. Cool it has the difficulty settings, but Normal Mode certainly as hell is alot harder than the original.

Actually played through the original afterwards and found it a cakewalk. Mike showed me a cool move in it actually... when your in a box they'll kick it, then lift it up right? (if it's in thier path)

So what you do is as they lift it they can't see you, run behind them and choke them to death.. mwhahaa
Made me laugh the first time I saw it, was like 'WTF?!' heh

I think that's one major difference with RE4, they've got rid of that annoying 'hunt the bullet' gameplay, there's more ammo and weaponary than before, so I suppose you don't feel like your ruining your game everytime you waste a bullet.

I say suppose because I still haven't got it - I know it's easter but FFS Gamestation!. I will be buying TS3 next month, hopefully I'll have completed Men of Valor by then.

I can't believe anyone finds Pikmin2 easy - it's easy until you complete it (bare with me), once you get your 10,000 piko's you have the choice to go home, or keep looking for treasure, then Louie goes missing and is replaced my el Presedente. The underground sections on the last 2 levels are very difficult - I'm stuck on killing the beast that has Louie right now - anyone who knows how should feel obliged to tell me .

Resi Remake is quite easy once you realise that you shouldn't kill the zombies. First time through, I wasted them all and wandered round the peaceful mansion with ease. On my return to the mansion though, I had no ammo and was surrounded by Crimson Heads. I actually had to restart the game as it was pretty much impossible. Second time round, it was much much easier. I didn't fire a single shot at any zombies, all I did was ignore them and walk/run calmly past. That made the game extremely easy. Later on when the enemies get tougher, hunters and those bugs in the lab, I had tons of ammo for my shotgun, handgun, grenade launcher and Barry's magnum (of course I didn't give him his gun back). If you play through and just ignore the zombies, your'll actually find the game quite easy. Only once you get to the lab should you start using your weapons.

Resi 4 is entirely different. Unless you are in professional mode, ammo is plentiful. Once you get used to the habit of pistol to the face, kick to the floor and knife in the face you can clear the game without ever having to conserver ammo (don't think I ever had the words empty on any of my weapons). Of course you should save shotgun ammo and magnum ammo for emergencies, but you can still afford to use them for a laugh against a lone villager.

Pikmin 2 isn't too hard if you take your time. SPOILER ALERT!!! Most enemies can be dispatched with a little punching from Olimar and Louie. Those that are large can simply be dispatched by a barrage of purple pikmin - even those flaming bulborb guys. A lot of the time you can use Olimar and Louie to trick the enemies. Take that boss that produces those pale yellow mini monsters from its arse and then rolls about (think its the one that gives you the shoe). That could be tricky, but its not. Take Louie and run up to the boss alone. Once he stops producing more offspring, walk down to the bottom of the room and stand on the other side of the wall. They will go for Louie provided he is nearest to them and end up just getting stuck trying to climb the wall. Then Olimar can chuck some yellows up the ledge where you entered. Run up as Olimar past the little enemies and go collect the yellows. Now you can fight the boss without the threat of mini enemies - easy! Most fights can be completed in a similarly easy way, with a little bit of thought.

I got the big worm quite easily, it's a big spider thingy that I'm stuck on now. I've taken to using the boulder spitting monsters to kill other enemies as well as itself, the boulder follows you so I just lure that into the path of enemies. I do tend to battle the enemies on my own a lot, especially those froggies, they can wipe out a lot of piks with that froggy leap.

The spider beast that has Louie uses everything against you, it has a flame thrower, water shower, poison gass, and fires electric mines. I can throw my piks at it all day and they don't seem to do any damage. Killing that spidey unlocks the 2-player challenge mode which I really want.

Thats the thing about the survival horror genre, your not supposed to kill anything. Especially in the Silent Hill games. You have to know which enemies to run past and which ones take 3 bullets and die. Being the uber Silent Hill fanboy I am, I had a bit of trouble playing RE4 though, cause it was a bit different then most survival horror. Through the game, Leon has plenty of ammo (and some kick ass guns, the punisher, and chicago typewriter - which you have to unlock BTW - ) and you can stick around and kill every single enemy in your way. By the end of 2nd part I got used to that. During the whole first part I was taking the game way to Silent Hillish, by running past tons of enemies, conserving tons of ammo. I had quite the stock pile of ammo for a while.

The game actually dosen't get "scary" (though my definition of scary is quite a bit different then others) until you get to the Village Chief boss battle. *spoiler*

None the less, It was the best gaming experience I ever had on the gamecube (Twin snakes eat your heart out).

As for what I am busy playing right now, God of War I'll be grabbing some time in the next few days. Devil May Cry 3 I had last week, and if your into that type of game its awesome. But be warned that whomever did the difficulty settings for the game is an jackass and just enjoys wathcing everyone struggle to beat the damn game (Nevan = Hardest boss IMO). Getting ready to play Splinter Cell: Chaos theory soon, it looks so sweet. I wanna find a buddy who is good at these types of games to do the co-op with cause it looks great.

But still, so far this year, top 3 games in this order:

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Star Wars: Republic Commando (god I love it)
3. Devil May Cry 3

Capcom is having a good year.

Theres no need to stock pile in normal mode, but I'm going through professional mode and I've decided it might be necessary to stock pile. Did the village without firing a single shot, just wielding my trusty knife, it was pretty tough.

BTW have you got 4 stars on the monastry in mercenaries yet. If you haven't you should as the character you unlock is absolutely incredible and great fun. Heres a spoiler:
I have no idea how to get 5 star on all maps as all people. I've only managed it as the bloke I just mentioned.

Simple... yet fun!

Gravedigging I know, but just wanted to add that I got it on Saturday, and it freakin rocks.

Dissapointed that I did'nt get to steal that dude's chainsaw, but what an awesome game!. I'm on the Castle right now, and I have the cool rifle with scope, mine launcher, combat shotty, 3rd handgun, and the TMP. The mine launcher is great fun, just gotta find more ammo for it .
