Over the past several days I have done much reading on DarkBasic Classic and Pro. The only programming experience I have is toying with regular old basic back in the late 80's but I remember that I enjoyed it and reading about DarkBasic has me wanting to revisit my dreams of programming.

I have downloaded the 30 day trial and have been having a blast. I decided to download some games from the "spotlight" section and this is where my first concern emerged.

My Computer:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Dell Inspiron XPS
Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz
3.39 GHz 100 GB of RAM
Radeon 9800 256

Every game that I download runs very slow, like a slideshow. My computer runs all of the latest commercial games (with graphic detail maxed) very well, but it bogs down on games written in DarkBasic.

Is there some setting I need to change on my end? For example, my native resolution is 1900 x 1620.

Is there a difference in performance between games written in Classic and Pro?

Chances are that I will purchase DarkBasic Pro just for the fun factor even if this is an inherent problem, but I have to assume that this isn't normal judging from all I have read.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Well, you could try setting the resolution to 1024, 768, 32 and see if theres any difference, although most of those games usually set their own resolution. Looking at your pc, lag seems like a myth . Also, DBPro is generally faster than DBC, but buggier. That could change depending on how update 5.8 and 6.0 goes.

I don't think the problem is in your setup because your's is exactly the same as mine ('cept I have an HP) and I don't have any problems with any of those games. The ones that I've tried anyway.

Smile, it confuses people.

Another born again Basic enthusiast - welcome. As said above, check you've got the latest version of Direct X. With those PC specs, you shouldn't have any problems.

I have a Dell Inspirion 8200 (WinXP HEsp2, 1.8 G, 512ram, Nvidia 440, DirectX 9c) and I have not experienced any real slow downs with the numerous DB demos that I've tried. Your system should fly I would think ?!?!?
