Is he really dead this time? Cause this would be the 2nd time in the last day that the news reported him dead. Have they hammered him yet?

I've seen the news on TV few minutes ago.
It's the official information from VATICAN.

But IIRC, it was an email that said he was dead yesterday (round noon my time) that was all over the news. Thats why, I wait for actual words.

Edit: Supposedly (according to fox news once again) the 2nd hand man will be announcing the start of the 9 day mourning in a few minutes...

Bless you brother for posting this. Pope Jean Paul II will truly be missed. He was born like Christ, he lived like Christ and he died like Christ. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

Show some respect, to those who are religious this is a sad time. Asking if they're hammered him yet is hardly apropriate.

(To aoneweb Everyone has a right to their belief. If you don't care about the pope's death, don't post here. Other people's opinions aren't going to damage yours (unless you have serious issues), so you have no reason to waste the time posting in this thread if you don't care other than starting trouble. I'll remove any further posts like that. This is a memorial not a debate.

He was a good man, but I wouldn't go this far

Half my family is probably mourning right now--- should give them a call I guess...

Anyone have any ideas who will be the next Pope?

WTF are you talking about? Its ritual for them to tap him in the head with the silver hammer... The only wording I can think of is "hammered" as there is no wording for it.

I actually have some respect for the man as he was a good human. Just like mother theresa, I don't belive in the teachings, but he was a good human.

I think he took it to mean hammering the coffin. I didn't know about the whole silver hammer deal myself!

Please, please, don't dis-respect the Pope. He was a good human being but still just a human being. Whoever you may be, please don't disrespect human life.

Life must be cherish both in suffering and in joy.

Very sad that on this mournful night, such blasphemy had to be made openly visible

For those who are believers or who cared for him, pray or just be silently.

For those who are not, or who don't care please, and I humbly ask you, please leave silently.

Dear Moderators: I know that I'm not a moderator and I've no say what-so-ever in your decisions, but I suppose the best thing to do is to lock this thread.

Yeah they tap him three times on the head , maybe to check if hes just sleeping then the pope wannabes all go off to a house to vote then they burn there votes lots of times and the colour of the smoke from the chimney signifies the results of the votes or something like that.

Im not religious but I find that kind of behaviour oddly interesting.

Sympathies to those that are upset by it all btw. At least he had a full life

The "Last Rites" is given to the sick, who may as a consequence also be dying. The actual name of the sacrament is "Sacrament of the Sick". It gives forgiveness without the need for repentance, and is given when someone is unable to take part in a full reconciliation.

And yes, he can have it again. Just like the sacrament of the Eucharist.

AoneWeb, I think you'll find you are actually in the minority. Who Cares? Well, 1.1 Billion Catholics, most christians, a huge number of communists, anyone with an interest in politics, all humanitarians, Pro-Life groups and a whole host of other people for many different reasons.

They showed a short history on BBC1 tonight. Aside from being Pope, he was one hell of a character, and stood up for his beliefs against all odds. It doesn't matter what your beliefs are, you have to admire someone who does that...especially in Post-War Communist Poland!

You were warned Aoneweb. If you wish you flaunt your 'superior' beliefs, you can do it elsewhere than a memorial thread for the man. That lacks respect, taste and character and breaks the AUP nettiquete rule completely-- not to mention you were warned to stop repeatedly. Two day ban.

Now now, even I have more decency than that. I actually do have a deep respect for the pope. It's hard for any prominent religious or political figure to be a strong advocate of freedom and traditionalism throughout their service. He had the right ideas about morality and stuck with them. Warding off the rainbow slings and pink arrows of outraged confusion.

To the pope: Pwn on my friend... pwn on.

Allthough I'm not the religious type, the death of John Paul is a great loss to the people of the world. He had the right views and virtues and will allways be a great man. Respect and peace to him.

Never in a spazillion years would I think he'd be gone. He was cool, never offended anyone, and (in my opinion, not a flame) one of the few hardcore Catholics I admire.
Who on earth will replace him, Pope-wise?

Well I'm sure there were people he offended, y'know, homosexuals, contraception and abortion enthusiasts, females wanting to become priests, cloning/artificial insemination enthusiasts, buddhists, communists, the list really goes on quite a bit. At one stage he even played down the entire West for creating "a culture of death". But all that's in the past now.

Read Angels and Demons?

Should be interesting to see what happens now, and how closely it correlates with the book.

This hasn't been done for the last 4 or 5 Popes.

Well, I am an agnostic, but I admire such a strong man, and think this will be a great loss for humanity. On the bright side, he defended human rights and always fought for peace. On the bad side, he was very conservative about many social problems.

All of his books are. Weakest one is Digital fortness, bu that still is unputdownable. Deception point is especially good.

Angels + Da Vinci are sequential and both equally good.

It's interesting for the historical facts only. The rest is utter garbage, IMHO. And that goes for the Da Vinci Code, too

He's got an extremely simplistic writing style... especially after reading Robert Jordan, I suppose, but it can't just be me (and my family, who think the same).

Not that he doesn't have some interesting ideas. They'll probably make far better movies than they do books.

TO be honest I dont give to commands about the pope. He's an ordinary person like me,you and george bush - (Oh wait he's a monkey ) But I hate religion it just causes war between mankind thats why my Rpg is based on religion.

What I don't understand is why they couldn't leave mourning his death until after he'd died. They may as well have just buried him alive the way media was talking about it. I'm sure he is was a great man (I'm not very religious so I'm not really sure of what exactly he did), but even so, I'd be pretty pissed if people started talking as if I'd just snuffed it while I was lying on my death bed.

On the other note, I don't get why Dan Brown gets so much stick about being a crap author. I was hooked from start to finish on all of his books.

I expect the Pope has done a hell of a lot more to help the world and other people than you, Me or george Bush has.

If you dont respect his religious outlook etc that is your opinion but what should be respected is his dedication to his faith and his devoutness in being pure etc and standing by and abiding by his reliefs.

(And yes Dan Brown is a GREAT author)

Same here!

Back on topic, to please Jimmy, who is so obviously such a better role model

It'll be weird to see a different Pope, especially a reasonably fit one - the only thing I've ever known is Jean Paul as Pope, it's going to be weird to see a walking one!
