Is there a way I can put the players Y coordinate into a variable that will not change when the player Y coordinate changes?

I tried something like this

+ Code Snippet

if LockPlayerY = 1
OldPlayerY = PlayerY
LockPlayerY = 0
endif

But I have become a bit rusty at DB/DBP and it didnt work.

It all depends on what you want to make capture the value. Here is an example of the spacekey() being pressed capturing it. Let go of the spacekey and it will not change.

sync on : sync rate 10
autocam off
position camera 0,0,-100
make object cube 1, 10

do
	position object 1, 0, rnd(100)-50, 0
	NewY# = object position y(1)
	if spacekey() = 1
		SavedY# = NewY#
	endif
	set cursor 5,5
	print NewY#,"  ",SavedY#
	sync
loop
