Firstly, I want to say sorry if I offend anyone by posting this thread but I just had to get the word out to the thousands online at TGC forum. I also apologise for trying to interrupt the gaming environment here but as I said, I need to get this serious word out.

I have an article from a well-respected science society (called ISIS) saying that the WHO plan to permit the genetic engineering of the small pox virus. I've included the article for details

It basically needs everybody and anybody to write to the WHO requesting that they don't allow the research to go ahead and to destroy the remaining stock and I hope you will take the time to do it too. The website is: http://www.smallpoxbiosafety.org/

Again, please forgive my rudeness in posting this here and I know that you're all dedicated gamers and haven't time to do this kind of stuff, but please try - this is a very real threat to the world.

Sounds like Deus Ex is playing out... but really, is it news to anyone that the WHO is an immoral, power-hungry, corrupt organization ?

Not to make light of the news of course...

<maddox> yeah, most help channels tend to be elitist.. "HOLY ---- YOU ------- IDIOT, YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT ALREADY. NEVERMIND THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHANNEL!

I support the WHO.

Maybe if you looked into what they're actually planning on DOING with the viris you'd be less inclined to start threads like these.

Haha! I was just about to ask what they were going to do with it If they're creating cures and whatnot... why the hell not?

Technically wouldn't it help stop any other outbreaks of smallpox (which will happen) and other similar crap?

let me explain...

this is from the article HWT posted:
Quote: " The proposal to genetically engineer smallpox, which would also permit smallpox genes to be inserted into related poxviruses and the unlimited distribution of small segments of smallpox DNA, poses a large number of public health, biosafety, and biological weapons risks. "

They wanna insert the smallpox's DNA into an organism (most probably a bacteria). this bacteria will then be researched. if the bacteria were leaked it could easily spread throughout the world and infect many other organisms including us since our bodies tolerate a small about of bacteria anyway. the bacteria when in a host organism can then easily express the viral DNA i.e. carry out the functions of smallpox and therefore cause smallpox all over again maybe even more potently.

Quote: " Maybe if you looked into what they're actually planning on DOING with the viris you'd be less inclined to start threads like these. "

i have and i can tell you with experience that it's not good (BSc. Medical and Applied Biotech). Genetics and DNA is something that simply can't be controlled by us enough to harness it's power. a good analogy is jurassic park especially the fact that they were able to create more movies based on the same concept since such problems die more than once.

Quote: " If they're creating cures and whatnot... why the hell not? "

because even investigation into genetics is uncontrolled no matter how "controllable" the government say it is. curing a disease using a virus THAT IS ALREADY VERY POTENT definately means that there's some bs ahead.

For when they said I couldn't, I did...

lol. World Health Organisation, as well as an old band.

Also, SmallPox has been eradicated (outside of the lab) for the last however many decades, so a vacine is pretty pointless. I haven't read the article, so I wonder what they're doing with it?

I was just about to ask why 'The Who' would be interested in doing that...

The guys at WHO are planning to allow the genetic engineering of small pox virus and hence, all paths are made official. Inserting the virus into animals, bacteria etc... are all legalised. Whatever it may be, bringing back to life a disease that has been (thank GOD) dead for sometime is not a good idea. I encourage you to write a simple letter stating that you are against the research.

'He's a pinball wizard there has to be a twist...lalala'

Seriously, i dont think its frankestein and hitler having another go at annihalating the world, its just some scientists trying to help people.
We already test stuff on animals, we aready..no wait i just re-read your last post

their legalising bacteria ?
seriously with a name with World Health Organisation i dont think their doing too much harm, though ive read slightly less about them than even you seem to have so i wont dive deeper down that line.
