Newcomers DBPro Corner / runtime error

hello

i just got dbpro today iv installed and updated it.when i try to run any source code all i get is an error (runtime error 1512 - display is not surported by available hardware at line 0).when i tried the trial vesion i didnt have this problem any help in putting me right would be welcome

It means that your hardware can't create the screen you are asking for. Latest version of directx and your video drivers you have?

here is a list of things iv tried to resolve this problem

installing other versions of directx from 8 upto 9.0c
setting screen resolution to a lower setting
setting colour depth to 32 and 16
updated graphics drivers
searched forums for answers

all failed i still get runtime error 1512

what i dont understand is when a friend installed an older copy of dbpro it worked find except it was an old copy (more than likly a copy that wasnt legal!!!) so why would an old copy work fine but the new copy keeps giving me this error

any help or advice just might work know mater how daft i might sound
