Check out this PDF

Don't ask how I found this, but...

Well I never! Is this the best the EU can do with our zillions of pounds of tax?
Quote: "an open cream jar symbol that is easy to understand"

Who has ever known about this? And if you saw that symbol would you know what it meant? NO.

They probably had hundreds of people just working on this!

Do you know it's there?
Do you know what it means?
How are you supposed to remember when you bought it?

What's wrong with a use by date?!!!

Isn't it 12/24 months from opening, not from production, so a use by date would be useless.

Write teh date you bought it on it.

Wow, now that is beaurocratical. I too can't see what's wrong with "USE BY: 12 APR 06"

1. I would understand it, it's very obvious
2. It's a good idea
3. I don't think it should be mandatory. "Use Within x months of opening" is just as acceptable to me.

It does break through language barriers though.

I agree with BatVink, the symbol makes perfect sense to me however I don't think it should be compulsory. Also, I doubt they spent 'zillions of pounds' on just this one venture, you'd be greatly misinformed if you actually believe that.

Thank you David T!!

If you didn't know about it though? And has anyone been told? If you saw that symbol on a bottle of shampoo, would you know what it meant without having read this? Nobody's announced what it means...

My argument:

Oh well... at least someone aggrees

If they spend millions on an advertising campaign then yes I'd probably recognise it but I've seen or heard nothing about this and if I picked up something with that symbol, I wouldn't now what on earth it meant.

... seriously... how hard would it be to figure out if you looked at it

12m with a can that's open...

I mean.. without advertising you may not catch on to it right away.. but once you wonder wtf it is, it'll be obvious once you study it for a minute
