I am not familiar with midi, but if it is a music file then you can use a free program called Audacity(google it). You can set Audacity to record what comes out of your speakers.

If you have Windows, you can also do it like this:

* Play the MIDI file using the media player of your choice.
* Use the Sound Recorder program to record the output. Then, save the file as a WAV file. The Sound Recorder program is usually found under START -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder

If you followed Tobias' method, then it would work. You don't need a microphone to do it!

You don't have to use the Microphone as an imput. You want to use the WAV channel (that plays the MIDI file) as the input. Or maybe its called "Line In".

But you are correct about the 60 second limit.

I use Cool Edit Pro, but it's not free.

Good luck!

This should work....
Get an audio cable like this one:

Plug one end into your audio out socket and the other into your microphone socket. Then just use Sound Recorder.

No, you don't wanna do that, that will overdrive the Mic preamp and possibly damage it. LINE OUT to LINE IN.

Can't you just use winamp using the diskwriter output plugin?

I'll tell you what. If you email me the MIDI file, I'll use Cool Edit and convert it to a WAV file for you.

Keep in mind that a WAV file could be 20 megs in size, so when I send it back to you it'll take a while to download.

Wait, just open it in Windows media player, then just save it as a wav file.

I know the ModPlug Tracker does this. And its free. I've used it for 10 years, and was the first native windows tracker.

Don't do what BearCDP said because what comes out of your headphone or speaker port is already amplified and it would cause damage to you sound card as the Microphone port isn't meant to take that sort of power.
