heh, if that is the problem then go to control panel\appearance and themes\display settings and change the screen rez, and color depth.

But i doubt that is the problem cause you would think someone that programming in darkbasic, would at least know how to change there res and color depth of there desktop

did you try rebooting your system? looks like your running win98, you shouldn't be in safe mode although thats almost what safe mode looks like but i think safe mode appears on the desktop background when your in it.

Could be two things - the monitor driver has been lost/corrupted or the video driver is corrupt/lost.

Uninstall both, and re-install both. Check the device manager for dodgy hardware. Do a full system scan for viruses and whatnot. Do a full disk check too. And also defrag.

If it still is wrong, re-install Windows.

Boot in safe mode and try to alter the settings there... also, did you get any messages before about the drwatson postmortem dedugger? Someone I helped through that virus had a very similar problem. Brick and Neo could be right too... I'd update the driver to your card.

I see you have Anim8or... Beginner's guide to db owner? hehe

EDIT: Go to the website of your card's provider. If don't know what kind of card you have, click start, then run, then type in DXDIAG . Hit enter, and you should be able to find out what sort of video card you have right there. Anyway, go to the company's website and find the newest driver for your card... if it's onboard, I don't know how to help you there, shy of you going to your computer's manufacturer site

We have kept it simple. What do you want ? For us to type it out phonetically ? Or perhaps use words of 2 sylibals or less ?

We have provided possible solutions - it is now up to you to implement them.

Quite wrong.. but eh, read the link I provided.

Ah yes, and AVG only works when it's activated, yours is not currently actively scanning Have you run a virus scan?

We can't telepathically tell! You'll have to run a diagnostic program or open up your computer, find the graphics chipset, write down the numbers and google them.

I doubt your chipset will have a heatsink on it so itll be easy.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what proggys will read your hardware if it's not installed properly, but Everest may

Just looks like someone changed your backround image and the 'one-click' thing on your folders, both very easy to get back...

It still could have been, and may not be active yet. I suggest you make sure avg is updated and do a thorough scan..

Also, like I noted earlier, your AVG is not turned on to actively check files for viruses, make sure you turn this functionality on or your computer is not protected.

Also, if you're the type who likes to pay for AV I'd suggest getting NOD32 as it runs better than AVG and far better than Norton.

I wouldn't recommend NOD32 - brought it two weeks ago, and tried it on 4 computers, all of which slowed to a crawl when loading/saving anything (be it games, Visual Studio projects). De-activate the memory scanner - no effect.
The support people weren't much help - all they could suggest was do a full virus scan...
Oh, and if your using FAT32, it can give false positives of the MFT

I've now using NAV 2005 - Trend was good, until it appeared that a virus got through and badly affected it.

sounds good..

As for NOD32, I've been running it for the past month, and it runs really beautifully. I've never had slowdowns like I did with AVG.

Brick, what kind of pc's did you use? And were they all fat32? I've never used nod on anything other than xp or 2000 with ntfs..

I was running NTFS on 3, FAT32 on 1
2 are AMD processors, and 2 are Intel.
3 are running Windows XP Home and 1 was running XP MCE
All were on SP2, of course.

What is annoying is that VS Studio performance is really hit - takes ages to load the program, ages to load a project, a long pause while something is done, use it for a little while and then pauses again.

Cant say the support for NOD32 is any good - as soon as I told them the computer is virus & ad-free, I haven't heard from them since.

It could also be how you've your settings. If they're default though, I dunno why you would have problems..

Anwyays, NOD32 has a 30 day free trial. Feel free to try it out, if it doesn't work for you, then you'll know well ahead of time, before you buy it.
