I've just bought a Panasonic DVDS27 from them, it came with no extra instructions for the multi-region. When I plugged it in, it wont play any region dvd and it displays "No Initialize!" on the TV screen and F897 on the DVD Display.

I was wondering if they should have supplied any extra information on how to set up the regions.

I can't be sure, but it would seem Play.com have listed this item incorrectly. Rather than being Multi Region, it's a Multi Format player. You can get more info on the player from http://panasonic.co.uk/dvd-players/dvds27ebs/index.htm.

[EDIT] It's possible that Play recieve them in a multi-region state, as other online shops seem to do this, or offer ways for you to reprogram your current player. Not sure on the legality of this though.

It had a multi-region sticker on it when I recieved it. And something is not right with it as it wont play region 1 or 2 DVD's. Hopefully play will be helpful when I phone them up to ask how to use it.

Play won't tell you how to do it, for legal reasons. It's up to you to find the instructions on the internet.

Play have sold me a "MULTI-REGION" DVD Player, so I expect a "MULTI-REGION" player, instead I have a NO REGION player.

I'm not trying to convert a Region 2 player to multi-region which I can do for a £23 remote.

Just heard back from Play and they have said that the people who have done the de-regioning, mucked it up on this one. So I have to send it back and they'll ship me one that works.

result!

When I got a multi-region player about 18 months ago, they couldn't legally do it for you, they could only supply a player capable of multiregion, and let you do the leg work yourself.

Yeah, same with me. Basically the normal version was like £120, with the MultiRegion being £140. It was a good price at the time and, stupidly, got the £140 version, thinking it would all be there nice and good, not just a code you would have to enter (possibly every time you fired up the non-region 2 disk). Only extra thing I got with the player was a piece of paper saying how to make it multi-region. ie. type in a code at a certain point on the menu system.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
