Although this post contains a links, it is in no way advertising for anything.

Please take a look at http://davidzworld.net/tutorials.php?id=1 in your spare time. I am going to add a series of tutorials to my website from all different programming/scripting types. The above tutorial is just an EXTREMELY basic tutorial I whipped up and want to know if its "idiot-proof" if you never use computers, could you understand this tutorial?

SideNote: For some reason IE won't recognize custome html/css tags, so the "code" portions of it will NOT be highlighted if you are using an IE browser.

I can't read the text... you see, I prefer not to have my monitor on full brightness settings as it hurts my eyes. Apart from not being able to see it very easily, it looks quite well written.

im on 88 brightness on my monitor...and that site is actually one of my "Brighter" ones, lol. Usually use really dark gray's and blacks. But as long as it's well written, i can mess with designs later.

Lighten up the text, please. Also, you may want to mention a much better but free editor. It's called Crimson Editor, and it's a very nice replacement to notesad. Main things I love about it is it's simple, only about 1mb, tabbed interface, and it's got syntax highlighting for about every language imaginable.

Actually, I use something called "conText" occassionally, i might give one of those a mention

As for dark text...what is normal screen brightness...because it appears plenty bright for me.

Still need to lighten up layout supposedly, but i added a new feature. If anybody would like to be kind and submit a tutorial for my viewers, feel free:

You can submit a tutorial on a wide range of programming/scripting topics.

You may want to fix that.

As for your text highlighting, why not use something that works with IE as well? I'm writing a site very similar to this, except for where there's code, I'm using normal [ code ] tags and replacing them with a <div class="code"> statement. Then I replace the [ /code ] tag with </div>

Screenshot: (rather big, so I'll just post the link for all you below 1600x1200 resolution users)

Well, I'm not sure if your monitor is like mine, but as well as brightness there is a colour adjust thing, so you can adjust the amount of red/green/blue on the screen. I have it on a setting called 9300 which is 74, 62, 63. Perhaps if you have the colour adjust setting, its on max colours(it really makes more of a difference than brightness sometimes!).

The layout looks like Jessticular's web site. I'm not accusing you or anything, I just recognise the weird dashed boxes

Code is highlighted here?

Facts are meaningless.
You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.

Yea, that is what inspired me. I figured, why pass up such a good idea when it's right there in front of me. If i get a complaint from the said person, I will be happy to change it.

[edit] text should be brightened up now.

That's good, often people who try to write idiot-proof tutorials write out huge unnecessary pargraphs trying to exlain it in the simplest way possible but just end up confusing the person reading it. You, on the other hand give them the facts without any etra confusing information. The only things I can think of is maybe telling them exactly where to make the directory (ie: DesktopMyWebSite), and telling them exactly how to open notepad without having to search (go to Run, type "notepad" and hit enter).

I spent a lot of time teaching myself HTML, javascript, vbscript etc.. and the simple step by step tutorial was the most helpful for me in the beginning. Your tutorial looks like it could be one of those that people just getting started can actually use to learn from.
