Hi, let me tell you what i'm trying to do...

I want to be able to hook my playstation 2 straight up to a video capture card..

I also want to be able to record straight from the card into a file on my computer, no fraps or anything like that(as it's coming from my playstation 2 system)..

Now, my question is.. if i were to get an ATI TV Wonder External USB 2.0 Tuner Card... Does this also record what's on the screen or ONLY display it to the screen?

Am i even looking in the right direction, should i be using a TV Tuner card, or should i be using a Video editing card such as Pinnacle Systems Studio AV/DV Version 9 Video Editing Kit(IS this a live feed, or does it only download from camcorders?)

Thanks alot for any feedback guys.

I'd recommend Pinnacle... they've been creating AV Solutions for over a decade and even thier budget range hardware/software is very easy to use and excellent quality.

Alright.. And Pinnacle's can record in real time from my playstation 2 straight onto my computer, so i can literally play my playstation 2 and watch it on my pc instantly?

[Edit - Also, you wouldnt happen to know if the ATI card i mentioned capable of recording what is inputted into it]

[Edit 2 - It appears so.. Capture video in MPEG 1/2 and 4 format ...]

Ok, new question.. one i cant find on the ATI or Bestbuy(electronics store) site doesnt say.. What's the inputted resolution size of ATI's video capturing?

I know pinacles is 720x480..

I wouldn't touch the ATI or NVIDIA ones with a 10ft barge-pole.
They're alright for watching TV, but not for recording resonably high-quality to scale down.

NVIDIA PureVideo is good, but you only get that with the lastest cards (6200/6600 only)

You will be able to directly throughput from your PS2 from it's RGB or RF on the Pinnacle. Most of them give you a little box that connects to the DVI. They've a little demanding on the processor though, so when recording the video you'll want to make sure that your not doing alot else.

Another thing is I'd recommend storing the video in RAW format then converting to an MPEG4 format later.

Dunno what the ATI one records, but I think it's max was 400x300. That said I've not used one of the lastest one, last one I had was for my 8500.. so it was a few years back. It was horrible though don't think I ever used it past experimenting.

I've decided to go with Dazzle DVC 90 Digital Video Creator.. 720x576 resolution using a high-speed usb... I wish i knew how many frames/s it would come out to.... I'm hoping, and sure that it'll be fine.

[Edit - Ugh, i'm really conflicted.. One of my friends says that the ATI one i posted is fairly new and uses more modern technology then the older ones... He says that because it also uses USB 2.0, and the fact that it can record raw uncompressed video to your pc it's good. It also has exports for mpeg 1, 2 and 4 from what he says.. I'm an ATI person when it comes to graphics cards, but have never tested one of these TV tuner type cards... Could anyone who's tried/used a recent one provide some feedback please?]

I have the AVerMedia DVD EZMaker Pro PCI and it's simply wonderful. For the money it leaves nothing to be desired.

Peace, the anti-Bush.

Part of the thing i'm worried about is how quick it sends the data in between eachother.. If i want to play/record my video game playing on my computer.. when i press a button, i need it to react immediately, there mustnt be any delay in between me pressing it, and it getting to the screen.
