well, I'm going to build my computer (hyrichter and Sephnroth convinced me ) and I need advice for the motherB. and the hd's. I'm thinking of getting a asus p5gd2 premium, asus p5gd2 deluxe, asus P4C800-E Deluxe, asus P5AD2-E Premium, or a Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe. (cpu, will be what the mother board I want can support.) And I am trying to figure out if a sata or a ata-133 is better, which one is compatible as the main hd. advice, recomendations, and answers are welcome!
thanks

The folks at the store told me Asus was the best brand of motherboard. Bought it and the AGP slot went defective a year later.

I now rely on a hamster in a tread-wheel.

It's M-E-G-A-T-O-N. NOT MEGATRON.

I prefer gigabyte mobos personally. You should choose a CPU before you choose a MOBO, as the MOBO needs to be "fitted" around the CPU.

well, I don't really care between amd or p4, amd64bit is cool, but that isn't much faster than a p4 3.6gh because the 64bit is about 2gh, and the mother boards aren't much different. amd and p4 have pros and cons, I'm not much of a gamer (building a gameing pc because they have high proformance), but I love having a fast cpu, the only m-rated game I have is splinter cell caos theory and allmost all the good games are m (halo). having 64bit dosn't matter because the amd 64bit is 32bit compatible and I have a installation for the 64bit suse 9.2 pro. and the buget is at <$2500 so price isn't much of a issue

I got an AN7 Abit motherboard its fairly good got a nividia chip set i bought a geforce 4 fx 5500 128mb for the agp slot and it runs fine the onboard sound is awsome no need to go buy a sound card at all.

Asus is the best though get matrox 10000rpm hard drives

you really cant compare AMD processors with Intel's just by the clock speed, they perform a bit differntly

Precisely. I like to think of Pentium as a bicycle with really small wheels spinning super fast, and the AMD with larger wheels spinning at a lower RPM. The AMD is definitely going to move faster even though its RPMs are lower.

If possible, get a MB which supports SATA and a SATA hard-drive (10,000 RPM if you can afford it. You'll be amazed how fast applications load.) I have an Asus A7V600-X mobo and I've been very happy with it.

under lord, yah I was thinking of getting a WD Raptor 72gig (10,00rpm) but am probably going to get a larger hd, how big is the matrox?
amd 64bit is better than p4, but I don't really see me needing one. just to check 32bit works on 64bit right? the reason why i'm sticking with asus because it has a 8channel sound card built into it (go to asus.com and look at the p5gd2 and p5ad2 modles pre and delu

Let the store build it.

Choose the processor architecture first, then choose the mainboard.

Choose SATA over ATA.
