I think (for the compo) a list of games that are considered puzzles should be made to give people ideas. As a start:

*Tetris
*Pipemania
*The Incredible Machine
*Jigsaws
*Connect Four????(is it?)

Some older ones, but still perfectly valid:

Logical
Atomz
Columns
Puzzle Bobble
E-Motion
Chips Challenge
Bombuzal
Archipelagos
The Tower of Babel
Klax
Plotting
Puzznic
Spindizzy Worlds
Revelation

I'll see if I can think of some more recent (console) ones.

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought that would've counted.
However it does make me more comfortable with knowing what is considered puzzle-wise.

The gameplay of Snood is just a rip of Puzzle Bobble, isn't it?

A new version of Logical would be really cool - that was always one of my faves, it was a lot more intellectual than the likes of Puzznic, like little spinning parts with tracks going into them, and you had to rotate and spit out various coloured marbles - it was very strategic once you got past level 5. The music was memorable as well, thank god for STeam - otherwise I'd have to make a remake myself.

Spindizzy World was cool as well, but I always preferred the original. I remember a nice feature on that in STFormat, like a few months of development coverage - there is a really cool level selection gui though, like spinning planets.

Puzzle Bubble is also known as Bust-A-Move on the home consoles, I used to play a lot of the Dreamcast version, damn addicting game.

Personally I'd like to see something with Newton physics, I mean, how about Newton physics Mousetrap! - that would rock.

Sorry Jess, everyone listen - NEWTON is a bad idea, a puzzle game using newton physics would suck.

This is bugging me now - I'm thinking I'll throw myself at an entry seeing as how Lonewolf progress is so healthy, the concept behind Logical is real simple so I might try that. I wrote Twintrix in the space of 2 nights, so the remainder of the week to come up with a Logical clone is not outta the question.

If pipemania is all good, then I'm assuming Lemmings falls into that category too.

Me? With my reputation?

Van, did you not like that WartHog exploding flash game that went around a little while ago?

Imagine that...
My game will be something not quite entirely unlike that

Apparently my idea is like "The Incredible Machine"...?
Never heard of it myself, but it doesn't matter

Ball starts off in a fixed location, you have certain objects to select from to make up a course, and the aim is to get the ball into the bucket at the end...
Starts off simple, place one girder here, and you're done... Progressing into massively complex systems where you're limited to the amount of each item you have, and they have to be placed pretty much exactly using Trial and Error otherwise you'll fail

Hence, the typical puzzel

Jess.

[href]www.sierra.com[/href] I think that's the site of the publisher...(incredible machine) Anyways, that's exactly what Incredible Machine is, except there are different objectives:

*put object somewhere
*pop toast (drop ball on toaster handle)
*turn on machines
*power machines via lasers

The game even comes with a puzzle builder, which is kool.

And, (for the trillionth time)

Does everyone agree that Connect Four would be considered a puzzle game?

I'd class Connect4 as a Strategy, same as I would with Reversi.
But I guess Rich said Reversi is allowed... so meh!

I have a pretty good idea for a game right now, doubt i'll have the time to actually make it; lol or even be here, but Jeku reckoned the premise was alot like Gobliiins.

I'm not entirely sure how mind you given that's a point and click adventure, but never actually played it for more than 5minutes back in 1992 :p

Cellbloc,

Don't worry about Logical, my game is inspired by it rather than being a remake - I mean in the retro compo there was like 3 or 4 versions of Jetpac but they were all totally different.

Jess,

Sounds like a cool idea, look forward to seeing what you come up with. I have messed around with newton physics, but there's a lot to take in! - haven't really got my head round it.

...yes?

Nitrixik,
Ah, ok, nice
Although I don't care as my idea was original to me ( not inspired by anything ), I found the website
http://www.vintage-sierra.com/puzzle/tim.html
And there is, infact a free, abandonware, copy here;
http://www.alex-soft.net/
[EDIT]
...Which doesn't work

[EDIT2]
W00T Found one that works...
