I'm not interested in makinga replacement for these with DBP (that would be stupid as #*%^), but I'm interested in the possibilities that these messenger services open up for gaming. I know there are third-party clients for these messenger programs, and I was wondering if the protocol that they use is available to program with? Because there's already millions of people set up with accounts using these programs, all of which have built in usernames and security, imagine the stuff you could make if you integrated the ability to communicate with these programs into your game.

What say you?

ICQ does offer a dev kit ...
As does GameSpy.

But, I think both kits work using DirectPlay and require
lobby support which DB/DBPro lack. DarkGameSDK might be able to
do this however. The only other method would be to have IP address
information placed into the commandline. ICQ supports that too.
Also, you could try the IRC route, but that gets very complex too.

Hmmm. I know anything like this will have to be done in the SDK, but if it can be done there it could surely be DLL'd over to dbp.
