Well I started work on Yahtzee about a week ago and was planning on posting some screenshots of my work so far today. I come to the forums and to my surprise there's a puzzle game competition on! My game seems to fit the guidelines well, although I think I'll have to introduce some 'original' aspects into it - but either way it won't take long to make. Here's some screenshots of my work so far. I'm using the newton DLL So far you get three rolls, you can hold dice, and then after your three rolls you can choose the score you want. At the moment I'm working on the different combinations of small staights which is taking absolutely ages, but I'm getting there. I'll post new screenshots whenever I update it!

Any comments welcome!

ps. I know you can see the edge of the green floor in the distance - I've only just noticed that because I've turned the brightness up on my computer lol. I'll fix it

Looks very nice, especially with the shadows. Very nice looking GUI as well.

I'd check on the "Puzzle" categorization though. From discussions, it sounds like this may not be counted.

Looks really good , but if I were you I would put a picture in the backdrop, maybe like a bar or casino scene, it would give the game a more exciting feel to it, just an idea

Personaly I have no problem with the floor fading into the distance, although if you do make the backround a casino, you should turn the floor into a yahtzee table or something.

Maybe you should try cell-shading the dice. Just put a negative box round them.

Thanks for the replies!
The background is just temporary really - I'll work out something to do with it.
I should have a little demo finished showing the game in action in the next few days, which I'll post up here if I can.

Been a while since I last updated this page, so I though I'd better.

Firstly, I have decided not to enter this for the puzzle competition - this is for a number of reasons, most importantly because I'm in the middle of exams at the moment, and I don't want programming to get in the way. Also, it's not *strictly* a puzzle game, and I want to take my time with this game, as I think it's going to be really good

I've decided to call it 'Yahtzee 123' because that sort of rhymes

I've done so much since I last posted here. Below are two screenshots showing the menu and an in-game shot (The 'roll one' text bobs up and down). I'm making it windows based, so you can have it running when other programs are opened. I decided not to have the maximize etc. buttons though, as this results in the screen being stretched and it looks ugly. The game itself is almost finished - just working on little touches like fading things in and out etc. All the 'score slots' have been programmed, and the bonusus for getting more than one yahtzee or more than 62 from the 'ones' to 'sixes' categories have also been added.

The game itself is very easy to play - you can do it all with the mouse - click on a dice (either the actual object or the picture along the bottom) to hold it. Then right click to roll again. The menu down the side slides in and out, done by moving the mouse to the side of the screen.

Things I'm working on now include the highscores and credits page. Also got to change the dice roll to check whether any dice are still moving (At the moment it's just timing it). I've got some basic sound effects in place, but I'm looking for some better ones to replace them.

I would like to release a demo in the next week or so - provided I can find some hosting...Just to check compatibility and if any problems arise.

Any comments very welcome,
Robin

ps. The game runs at a smooth constant 60fps (Which is what it's locked at) on my average spec. computer.
