Howdi

I've got a playable demo of the puzzle game I'm working on for the puzzle compo and I'd like some early feedback.

The concept is a simple one, based on a seriously old Nintendo puzzle (it's dated 1980 so it's long before Mario and Zelda every appeared!). Basically you have 5 stacks of balls held in around a cylinder. The ends of the cylinder move up and down shifting 3 of the stacks up or down and storing 3 balls in either of the cap ends. You can then rotate the cap ends around together (since they're joined) to reposition the balls. The middle is split into two pieces that can rotate around just the same. The idea is to get all the different colour balls into their stacks.

This screen shot shows the completed puzzle.

The extra 3 black balls are the cap balls and they need to be in the cap ends when the puzzle is complete. You'll get a better idea of how it works if you play around with it. The controls are as follows:

Mouse - move the camera around the puzzle.
Left Mouse Button - shift the cap piece (3 stacks will move either up or down)
1 and 2 - Rotate the cap ends.
Q and W - Rotate the upper piece in the middle.
A and S - Rotate the lower piece in the middle.
Z and X - Rotate the cap ends.
Escape - Quit

At the moment there's no 3d structure to the puzzle other then the balls. So you may find the controls a little difficult to understand for the moment. The puzzle begins at the completed state, so just have a play with the mechanics of it and let me know what you think.

Thanks

I get a CRC error when trying to extract puzzle.exe . Perhaps it's my crappy .rar extractor EasyZip.

Try it again zenassem, if you can't manage it I'll see if I can make it a SEE rather then a rar.

[edit] Ah, DBSpot's down for the moment, darn...

Woohoo!

My site is up and running again and my Puzzle game is ready for testing.

Mitchell - No offense, but one word comments about games don't help anyone. I'm putting this up for download early because I want feedback. How are the controls? Can you find any bugs? Etc. Etc.

Zanassem - Any luck with a second attempt?

Everything worked smooth for me, the controls make sense and I was able to mess around with the balls . It seems really cool so far and Im looking forward to what you do with it in the future.

He's from Nederlander, maybe that's the only word he knows.

Ok, I've uploaded a slightly updated version, this time it's got the 3d segments added that actually make it more difficult, since they block your view to at least two of the stacks.

Suggestions, ideas, comments, feedback, please!

Same link as in my original post.

Here's a screenie

I still don't get it...could you post a screenshot of what it looks like originally when it's mixed-up?

This screen shot looks different because I've tipped it on it's side, but this is with it a little mixed up.

so...I still don't get how you move the balls up and down...you rotate the segments to turn the position of the balls, but how do they move around?

I get the feeling I should pursue a slightly different puzzle. I've been thinking about it the last few days, anyway.
