If you have the money, get both

If not, I suggest DBP, it comes with a lot more features and versatility, better support for DirectX..and...it has the word Pro in it, so it has to be good

If you buy DBC, you will never get interested in the products due to the superb ugliness of it, unless you are a hard-core programmer. I would strongly recommend buying DBP. In my opinion it is one of the best 3D-capable programming languages available on the market today. Not to mention the fact that it is EXTREMELY easy compared to things such as VB and C++. Get the product and as long as you have an interest in programming...you will definately not regret it.

I'm not a big fan of the book. It's geared toward people who don't have a lot of programming experience. If you've done Visual Basic programming, you won't learn much from the book.

Buy Pro, that's my advice.

I bought both. You'll get much more out of DBP and this web site than the book. I've read Tech manuals all of my life and the book is one of the worst.

I bought both but you will find that you will most likely use Pro the most.

Classic has an advantage in a some areas.
Quote: "
1) It is stable (but no longer being updated.

2) It can create programs that will run better on older hardware.

3) There are fewer commands (but most commands are carried forward to Pro. There are changes to some of the parameters but basic syntax is very similar. Learn one, get a head start on the other.

DISADVANTAGE
1) You need the enhaced version to use add in DLLs to help with programming ,but the cost is inexpensive and it is also included with the the original DarkMatter.

2) The interface is not as easy to use as the proversion but there is a third party interface. I think it is still included with Classic.
"

Pro has these advantages over Classic
Quote: "
1) Pro is still being upgraded and improved.

2) Pro is faster

3) Pro uses more advanced technology in regards to 3D graphics support. This includes the use of shaders (which I am not using at this time).

4) Pro has a better interface as well as some third party interfaces for entering code.

5) Support for third party DLLs is built in. no expansion pack required.

6) There are a large number of add-ins or expansions (DLLs) available. Many are free from other users or low cost in some cases.

7) It cost only slightly more than classic (with DarkMatter)

DISADVANTAGES -------

1) It is in flux as upgrades, new features, and Bug fixs get implemented.

2) It is not as stable as Classic at this time, but it is much improved from the basic version. The current version upgrade level available is 5.8

3) It is slightly more expensive (but worth the extra cost.)
"

You can create enjoyble games in either version.

Wasting CPU Cycles since the 286 was a hot machine.

What about Blitz3D? Does anyone have any experience using that? It is about the same price as DBPro and seems to be as full of features. This is not necessarily the best judge of a programming language but the Blitz3D gallery/showcase is full of many impressive examples. How do people compare Blitz3D with DBPro?
