Im wondering how to make a car engine rev up based on rpm. Would it be as simple as taking a idle car engine sound, then scaling the sound speed with the rpm? Would you need to splice multiple wavs together or could you get a good result with one single sound file?

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS if you know where I can get some good idle engine sounds for different types of cars (mainly looking for super cars, f1 ect...), that would be great!

excellent site: http://www.sounddogs.com - sounds cost money, but you can buy portions of sounds in any quality you want, with instant downloads.

A nice looping engine sound is all you really need - then just speed it up (SET OBJECT SPEED) depending on the revs - you could also add spot effect like engine pops and bangs if the game style permits (to break up the loop sound a little).

Yes, I used a single sound loop and changed the speed. I also made it a 3D sound and attached it to the vehicle's position. This is an excellent way of hiding the fact that it's a loop, as the sound changes with distance and position from the camera.

set sound speed?

The speed could increase as the car rev's up, and then maintain a higher value for diriving (you'll need a looping engine noise)

awww, i was all prepared to answer a question about how to handle the rpm's based on an engine size and gear ratios. oh well

if you want, I can try and get a sound recording of my friend's car. I doubt you'd find a better sounding car anywhere, he even won a trophy at the show for best sounding car.
