The American tycoon Malcolm Glazer has finally got his dirty hands on Manchester United.

It's sad that these days it's legal that you can borrow £800m, buy a business with and and then transfer ALL that debt to the business - in effect getting it for free.

I hope the cluib managed to survive through this but to take a succesful, debt-free business like United and laden it with £08.bn of debt seems plain wrong.

On similar business, anybody heard about the young Nigerian player United signed that's been 'kidnapped' by Chelsea agents?

Ha ha! Another needle in the eye for Man U - that's just what Everton need! (espeically after that 7-0 match, but who cares? Were in the champions league anyway!)

He's borrowed £800 million to buy it, nad one he has hold of Man U he'll transfer all the debt onto their books, not his. Turning a debt-free club into ont DEEP in debt.

All profits will gop to repayments and to Glazer instead to the club funds for stadium improvements, transfers and the like.

I don't think Glazer'll have anything to do with managing the club. He'll just cripple it.

If I remember rightly United were the richest sport club in the world (about £1bn isn't it? or about $2bn), not just football. This will probably make them the poorest with massive debt. What a swing.

Who'd have thought we would rather have the russians (Chelsea aren't exactly crying).

I don't know how it'll affect us. Hopefully all this debt will be laid on over the long term so ther's no instant deterioration but who knows.

I can't believe he's actually thinking it's going to work. This has got "financial disaster" written all over it, and Glazer will get away scot free.

Probably turn it into UnitedLand(TM).

Is it just me who likes the idea of added-time multiball? And don't ya just love how they say MiddlesBRO. Arf.

Oh and watch saturday games abroad (we 99% of the time cannot unless we go to the stadium). Saw it a few times when I worked in Dubai. It is most funny as ESPN cover it with american commentators. And it sounds almost as bad as that advert. "Yeah Bob, once Manchester start opening up with the big guns in the second period we should see some fireworks". Laughed my t*ts off so much that it didn't hurt so much when we lost. Still, it was Saturday football. In a pub. In lovely weather. With a patio window showing the gym area outside pool that always was full of air hostesses (I worked for Emirates airlines). *Really* good hostesses too... God that place was heaven on a saturday.... WTF am I doing back here working in bloody Slough (watch the Office)..... Crying now

I don't understand where this theory comes from. Glazer didn't make his money by ploughing it into doomed projects. Glazer can only make money one way - by making the company a success.

Yes, I agree, to him it's a business interest, rather than a love of the club. But he still has to make it work.

Although I think he won't be able to make it work - by putting up ticket prices and other merchandise as part of trying to recoup some of this debt he'll see a sharp drop of profits as fans start to boycott the club (some are already buring season ticket renewal forms).

If he does suffer a bug enogh drop in profits he'll be left with a large loan, decreasing source of revenue, and a bunch of good players he can sell .

IF on the other hand he can somehow manage to pay off the loan and make sure it has no impact on the day to day running of the club and transfer budgets then good on him. However his reputation in the US is for ticket-price rising and merchandise price rises.
