Thought I would post some wip on my current project. I've been working on it since the start of the week. It's a football game similar in style to sensible soccer or kick off. At the moment I'm working on the ai and have to make better player models but it is taking shape nicely so far I think. Anyway some screenshots for viewing pleasure.

BTW I'm going to make a DB Utd Team so anyone who replies to this post will make the team. Let me know if you want to be included or not though.

I liked Kick-off! and Sensible Soccer, too!!!
Great idea, the last soccer game with top view I can remember is Totale Soccer ('98 ?!?)
If I'm right there was a Match Day on C64

Count on me for no. 11 like my homonymous player from 70's World Cup's finalist Italy (Riva)

Yes there was a Match Day and Match Day 2 on the old systems. All good games. I might change the name but I couldn't think of anything else.

Ok 2 players for the DB Utd team so far.

9 - Tesio
11 - AlexRiva

The game will also have lot's of club teams from around the world as well as international and custom teams. All can be customized fully and it's easy to add new ones. BTW does anyone know what the story is with including real player names? Can I use real names or should I alter them?

I decided to stay low for a while, because all my projects died (DBPro Update blues ). I have a new project in WIP.

But hey!!! I loved Sensible Soccer! It cost me a couple of joysticks of frustration then... and i really like to be a part of your game. Set me up for nr.3 (Jaap Stam, his number from the Dutch national team). Can't wait to see this in action.

Thanks for the comments guys, below is the team so far. There are 5 places left on the first 11 and 5 more places in the subs, post quick if you want to be on the team. I hope to have a demo ready in week or so. It will only feature the option to play a friendly game but I will be adding cups and leagues too and possibly a career mode too.

Looking good, I like to see sports games being made in DBP, since I love just about every sport. What kind of physics are you going to be using for the soccerball(Custom, Newton, or something else?)?

Put me in at No. 5

Keep up the good work.

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

I'm using my own custom physics. I might have a look at newton but I think for this game some simple custom physics should be enough for some fast fun gameplay.

I might do. What sort of media can you do?

Added players to team
9 - Hawkeye
5 - MikeS

That's two left...

Is the gameplay gonna be like FIFA or backyard soccer where you can sub whenever you want? and you gotta make it so there are injuries...that's the best part of Madden 2005/4/3/2 whatever.

I just realized...this is English "football", cool!

yes FOOTBALL, where you use your foot.
Try finding a copy of Kick-Off or Sensible Soccer, they'll be abandonware now.

Trust me it ain't like modern sports games.

Not sure what backyard soccer is like but the gameplay will be like sensible soccer. Fifa is a more serious football sim where sensible soccer was more of a simple but fun affair. In my opinion it's just as good as fifa or pro evo even to this day but perhaps that's just my fondness for the game.

There will be subs, each team will have 16 players which means 5 subs to choose from but some games might limit how many times you can sub. For example a friendly you could sub five times but a cup game maybe only twice. There will also be injuries, injured players will have reduced speed.

Added to DB Team
2 - Drew Cameron
14 - Chris Cave
12 - Robo Cat

Only 2 spots left!

I like the way you talk about FIFA as 'soccer' then realise you're not talking about american footie

There should be different levels of injuries, some come with reduced speed, and some the player has to be taken out. But the end-user should be able to decide whether to keep the player in or not. And if you use animations like FIFA does, then remember this:

make good animations. I always laugh when it says "player has a head injury" and he limps off grabbing his wrist.

the picture was more inticing then the title, let's just say...

I plan to have only 1 level of injury, it will be up to the player to substitute them or not but obviously it would be better to do so. And they will be a rare occurance so as not to spoil gameplay too much. Don't expect the level of animations seen in fifa btw, it will be much more simpler than that, sorry but I'm not the best modeler/animator And I am trying to get the gameplay down first, then I can go back and improve the graphics and animations etc.

Ok here's the final team selction. Thanks to everyone for their interest. I will hopefully deliver a demo soon.

I'm just saying that if you're gonna have animations of people walking off the field clutching their wrist, then that better be because they got a wrist injury, and that their not clutching their wrist because they got tackled and broke their collar bone.

Why not have it like Mario Kart soccer so you have power ups in boxes (such as the green shell) which you can use? That would be awesome.

OK just a quick update. The game is progressing steadily but I am still working on important game mechanics so the early demo isn't ready yet. It is getting to a playable state now though and is quite fun to play (imo ) at this early stage.

@powersoft and Supremacy Project
The team is full at the moment however I might increase the maximum no of players per team in the future. If I do I will add you guys.

@robo cat
No power ups sorry, it's going to be standard soccer stuff
