betamax, the better of the 2 standards.

smaller tapes, better quality, preferred by professionals over the poor quality VHS standard. Failed due to the VHS name (initials are preffered when refering to AV standards by the general public) and the premise some people had that you could get more on a VHS tape because it was bigger. and back in the day, big and heavy meant quality. Most professional 'videotape' archives in the world are held on betamax. but of couse VHS was teh better standaaahrd.

a common view held by those not in the know.

true greece.. the main thing that helped VHS to become used over Betamax was the fact a deal was struct with Video Rental shops to only supply VHS tapes.

Given most people rented thier TV/Video, it was all about business tactics. Sony just couldn't provide that across europe and the US at that time.

Amusing how times change, eh?
Still doesn't stop it being ugly heh

X-Box 360

in-case anyone wanted to see it as well. personally I find the X-Box 360 quite beautiful.. very sleak. it'll look perfect in my living room.

I wonder if you threw one of the controllers it would come back to you, at the moment the PS3 wins in terms of looks, but the XBox wins because you can link it with your pc via wifi and do more things than with the PS3.

i like it, even the controls, they arent much different than PS2, except their handles are longer. It look more..."slick". I like it. Besides im sure the controllers are going to feel fine, after all they spend millions of dollars researching and getting them just right.

PS3 is ugly as crap, but a scary powerful monster. Xbox 360 has a lot of small advantages though. This round of the console wars looks to be a fun one.

wow, thats awesome!!, the PS3 is definetly the next big step in video games , no matter how bad the console looks.

EDIT: By the time i have a job as a video game producer, the graphics are gonna be awesome! Some of these look almost like movies!

EDIT2: i cant imagine how much video games are going to change! When i was little i remember watching my dad play top-down shooters on the SEGA! Now we have this, lol! And that wasnt even 10 years ago!

Lol, yeah same thing except other way around here...

(though i must say this PS3 looks like a HUGE improvement over PS2...because, no offense, but PS2 really sucks...though it does have some good games)

I agree that Killzone 2 is probably the most amazing game footage I've seen so far in all the next gen consoles... But in XBox360's favor, "Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion" doesn't look far behind Killzone in terms of graphics.

Eww, I agree with that. Especially on the controller, it looks harder to hold then anything I've seen before this...

I don't know what Sony was thinking...

That is exactly what I thought when I saw it, it looks like a dang printer. And the controllers are the stupidest looking controllers I have ever seen. I don't care if they are comfortable, they are ridiculous. If I every buy one of these systems, it's going to be the X-Box 360. But I wish everyone wasn't going to silver. Sure, I like silver, but what is wrong with silver and black?

That controller rocks. I've never in my life been able to comfortably use a playstation controller, that one looks quite comfy. Not big and hulking, but not small and constricting. I hate having my hands mashed together while playing games.
