BTW, I did do a google search of the forums but I didn't turn up much.

So if anyone can suggest a decent, reasonably priced (or Free) music composer/sequencer that I should look into, I would be grateful.

So far I have come up with
Music Maker 2005 (sold here on TGC)
Cakewalk
Cubase (looks like a little too much for my music skills)

Thanks
~zenassem

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=47787&b=2 I belive that covers most everything... I use ModTracker myself, it's free and has a easy interface. Fallout uses Skale Tracker, it's also free and is based off of FT2. For kick-arse vst support you might try Psycle Tracker...

Er people have said that Fruty Loops is really good, but I don't like it It focuses too much on loop based creation, which of course for games is alright, but I guess I just like trackers too much.

Sound editing: if you don't want to spend money on CoolEdit, then check Audcity. The easiest thing I've ever used, didn't even have to look at the manual to do my own sampling Very user friendly.

edit: forgot to mention, the demo of fruty loops is VERY friendly--it lets you do anything except for save to the fl format (tho I'm pretty sure it doesn't let you import vst plugins)

Music Maker ain't that bad for it's price, you can make some nice tracks with that. I plan to buy it since the Cap'in left me...

I'd suggest a Kevin Manthei.. or if you want a cheaper solution a Bjorn Larne.

I think what will get you the most for your mula is FL Studio. The demo is free and exports .mp3, however does not save projects. If you actually want to be legal you can find one of the basic editions for cheap on Academic Superstore.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I'll check out the thread Hawkeye.

@BearCDP,

I have been under the impression that I can't use .mp3 due to licensing. Does FL Studio support Ogg Vorbis, or can I convert. I'll do some googling, but perhpas you will have the answer before I find it.

Thanks again
~zen

edit:
FL Studio seems to be exactly what I was looking for. Lots to learn and play with.

Good question. I would answer, but I still want to talk about my free Ipod that the mods locked...noooooooo. We must D-E-S-T-R-O-Y the LOCK button! It causes great evil and temptations. Maybe some of us like spam eh?

Ok, I shut up now. Oh yea, Audacity

Audacity's not much for music unless you've got a keyboard or something for audio-in. What you can do though, is export a .wav from FL and then use Audacity to convert it to ogg.

@Nitrixik: Google is your friend http://www.skale.org/

Audcity is merely a sound editor. All it does is chop up your samples into manageable bits, add reverb/echo, etc. For the actual creation, you need something to put it all together. FLStudio, as far as I've found, doesn't support sample based creation--it's all based on internal VSTs. But it really doesn't matter that much, as long as you stick with whatever you use...

(This is not an ad)

If you wanna bust out funky fresh beats like me...

You might wanna try a getting a USB piano and grab some MIDI software and make some MIDI music.

I think it's very fun and it's an obsession to me...

I make a new track every day..

Peace

cubase is an awesome program, but as you said its a bit expensive. At school we have 20 licenses and each liscence is installed on its own computer complete with headphones, microphone and keyboard(piano). Nice but a bit expensive...
Personally I use Modplug tracker(at home) and cubase(at school)

Part of solving the problem is actually noticing that the problem is there in the first place
