What Quake 4 brings is a more open and crowded sence of futuristic war.. while providing a continuation of the Quake 2 story.
It won't be for everyone, and yes the new console games due out next year will completely eclipse it in terms of what it provides.
This said I don't see how anyone can say it looks like Doom3 from what they showed in the very very very very short E3 trailer.
The screenshots they'd let out, looked far too Doom-like.. but the trailer has bright wide open spaces. Everything that Raven Software had promised seems to be piecing together.
When you consider this with Raven Software's ability to make solid playable FPS with little things that make them stand out from the crowd.. well it shouldn't be hard to see that it'll be worth it. Though no doubt not a *must have* title.
Soldier of Fortune, Elite Forces, Jedi Knight 2. If you've not played any of thier Quake3 based games, I'd suggest you take a look to see what they're all about.
Personally I think a lot of Raven Software fans are looking forward to seeing the Strogg again as well as seeing Ghoul 3.0 in action.
Been following the design and the way the worlds seemlessly blend organic and metallic is just pretty freaky but cool.
Definately look forward to a useable Multiplayer aspect too.
Doom3's multiplayer was weak, and only useable by people with high-end connections meaning you only got either extremely awesome players or frag-monkies who use leet for everything. with only a few players it just didn't have the same impact.
Capture the flag with 4 people JUST ISN'T FUN!
Raven Software have always expanded and enhanced multiplayer in all of thier games, with it becomming a very good focus while telling some linear but deep stories in single player. Can't really have thought of a better company to take us back to Stroggos.
